The servers here are extremely rude and it was not like they were pressured to wait tables for a bunch of people. It was an early lunch and there were only 2 other tables seated. You expect to have quality service when you go to a restaurant. I think its very rude to have the lady give you a smug look upon ordering, or even asking for extra utensils/bowls.. I ordered the hot and sour soup was very bland -- not sour and not spicy at all. I've had much better at other Thai Restaurants in Berkeley... We weren't even half way finished with our meal when we received the bill for our food. Hello? You didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert? I felt totally rushed with my meal and wanted to leave immediately. I doubt I'll be going back here again. The service was horrible and the food wasn't what I was expecting.

Yum! Just had a great lunch! Really good lunch specials and they are pretty affordable. The service was friendly and quick even though they were totally full. The fried pumpkin, taro and sweet potato app was delish! Hubby got Tom Ka soup that was also quite good. I had the Pad Thai - it was a little bland but they brought the spice dish and i was able to easily kick it up. We'll definitely be back!

After two years of ordering from Top Thai, they haven't remembered that I live 1.5 blocks from Castro Valley's borders. That's okay, we usually have a little conversation and they figure it out. Except for tonight. Tonight they suddenly made me wait 3 minutes, then came back and demanded a $40 minimum order (before tax) to do what they've been doing for two years. And it's not like I'm a bad tipper -- $5 in cash to the driver every time because I used to do it and it's not an easy job. This really bummed me out. I don't like being jerked around, and now I have to go find a new Thai place. Poop.

Bomb! Not appealing from the outside but when you come in it's super clean and cute. Now the food... Ridiculous! I mean authentic Thai. I asked for extra spicy and they hooked it up! Everything was super flavorful and everything came out quick. Screw those fancy shmancy big "Thai chain restaurants" and come support your local hole in the wall. You won't be disappointed.

I'm sensing this theme with my Thai restaraunt reviews, and that is, I just like Thai food. I haven't ever had bad Thai food, at least not yet, and with their mix of flavors, I might not ever! We ordered take out on... I think Thanksgiving for lunch because there were open when almost nowhere else was - not even Taco Bell. I mean, bless the Asian restaurants for not giving a crap about our American holidays and offering, for no extra fee, to provide us lazy Americans with no Thanksgiving lunch plans (because we are using all our effort to cook a HUGE dinner) with delectable food that has NO similarities to our predictable yearly feast! 7 of us shared the panang red curry w/ beef (A), green curry with tofu and veggies (B), veggie fried rice (B-), Pad Thai with shrimp (B), thai basil with pork (C-, literally just basil and pork), and of course I had a Thai iced tea to top it off. When we went to get our food, it was all ready to go and it stayed hot for a while (plus for that), but there were alot of creep Thai art and colors. It was either haunting or cute, like the depressing Radiohead songs.

I must say growing up in a city that has a huge population of Asian cuisine, everyone is fighting for a piece of the pie. Having traveled to visit friends and family in area we tried out this place. Boy, I could not have been happier. You can definitely tell whoever is preparing your food back there knows what they are doing. By far for such a random spot to dine in, Top Thai puts many "high end" expensive Thai restaurants back home to shame. You want exquisite authentic Thai flavors and consistency.. this is the place to be!! I wish they delivered to the east coast haha, no really... i wish they did. Coming back home it just wasn't the same explosion for your pallet when you are craving Thai food. Damn you guys come open up shop on the east coast! We had to order the forerunners of Thai Cuisine and some of the main courses were obivously the Pad Thai, the Larb pad see ew and the Basil fried rice. The pad thai had the perfect balance of sweet and salty, made you want to slurp every last noodle. The larb pad see ew, the duck was cooked perfectly and moist. The rice noodle wasn't soggy. Now the basil fried rice is my jam, many thai places seem to dumb down the flavor why? I have no idea but i got this with a nice kick, well cooked rice and NOT oily. Priced right, food prepped and served in a very timely manner- just quality I commend you guys!

I personally think it's the best in CV. It's super cute and the staff is adorable and always very prompt. Everyone is kind, even though sometimes the service takes a it longer than anticipated. The noodles are not always fresh, but I think the other saucy dishes make up for it. Good place for younger, hipper crowd; dates in CV; and catching up with one or two friends. Lunch is less crowded than dinner. Dinner gets a crowded quickly and the service slows because of it, but if you have a good group of friends with you or are with your family then it will not be noticed.

Best Thai place nearby by far. Though the Staff is very rude and a little racist. Due to that fact, I always order to go when I'm really craving their food. otherwise I try to avoid the place all together.

The yellow curry with tofu was quite tasty. The tofu is large cubes, fried to crispy. Veggies were cooked perfectly. Staff was very kind.

Bad customer service from the short hair lady. She was rude and mean just because we didnt give her a tip ! But the food is decent. I wouldnt eat in side but maybe to go.

What can I say? I love this place! The food is always good- never had a bad experience with quality, etc. The staff are friendly and know my name- does that tell you how often I go-? My favorites: Spicy Basil Fried Rice w/ Chicken Basil Eggplant (no tofu) Green Top Thai (assorted stir-fried veggies) BBQ Chicken Tom Yum Soup w/ Chicken Lemon Fish (it also has garlic and is served over veggies) Thai Iced Tea Prices are decent and the restaurant is cute & clean. Parking lot is a little tricky so on a busy night like Friday or Saturday you might want to park around the corner.

Why not update? It's been almost 6 years. The food is still good here. This is my spot to get Tom Yum soup when I'm not feeling well and I need to sweat it out. The papaya salad is amazing here. I also had their yellow curry with rice, and now I crave it every so often. I tried my friend's green curry and that was a bit sweet and different. I'll stick to yellow curry. The staff is still friendly. I hope this place never closes.

Food: well prepared; traditional Thai dishes Service: take out order. Waitress was personable and prompt Ambiance: well lit seating area. Booths and tables. Romantic setting Recommendations: Pad Thai, roasted duck curry Ordered pad Thai, Thai basil beef, roasted duck curry, mango sticky rice, fried bananas with ice cream to go. Pad Thai was delicious but I wish they could've given us more shrimp (only got 3). Generous servings of roasted duck which by far the best dish.

My best friend and I went on our lunch date around the Castro Valley and decided to check this place out. We were immediately seated upon arrival and asked for our order. She had Pad See Ew while I had Pad Thai. I'm a bigfan of Pad thai and I thought their Pad thai was just alright. I definitely had better Pad thai before. Although the food was just alright. The service was superb. They were quite attentive to the point that they even wrapped our to go food. Definitely not my favorite thai place but it is decent enough.

Top Thai 's food and service is really amazing. You can tell when you eat this food that is made fresh daily. There waiters are nice and always take care of you. This food feels like you made it fresh at home. I highly recommend the Angel Wings they taste very nice with the sauce, and without the sauce.

    (5)
  • Brad T.

The good is great but the service can be dreadfully slow. No matter how much longer after the estimated pick up I always have to wait! I almost feel as if they don't even start cooking it until I get there!

This is a yummy little hole in the wall near my friends' house in Castro valley. Parking really sucks, but there is a little residential area that you can try to park in if there is space. It's totally work the walk if you can't find parking! I've been here twice and so far I have no complaints. The first time I went I had the shrimp pad thai. The shrimp was a bit dry, but the dish was very flavorful. A friend of mine had the Thom Ka, which is DELICIOUS. I came back a second time with my parents and had the chicken friend rice. I didn't like the rice quite as much as the pad thai, but I definitely enjoyed the Thai iced tea. The service is average, and the staff is friendly even though many of them have limited english skills, they are still very welcoming and provide pretty good hospitality.

  • Josh B.

GREAT lunch specials (includes salad, entree and thai iced tea) for cheap and they're even offered on Saturday. Seriously, who does that? The food has been consistently good and the service is always good. I love the thai girl that works there, such a cute accent! I usually get pad kee mao (spicy basil noodle). My only complaint is that they don't have som tom (papaya salad). This is my favorite thai dish and I'm surprised, as a thai restaurant, that they don't have it.

  • Lor D.

The restaurant is nice and clean. The staff are friendly. I like to come here once in a while with my girlfriend. The best thing that we've had here is the deep fried trout. It's delicious!

  • Jackie C.

The food here is a little inconsistent for me. Years ago, it seemed a lot better. Nowadays, it's a hit or miss. On the last few occasions, my food here were misses. Rice was soggy and everything else tasted very salty. My friend orders bottled beer that seems to always be flat. I've never ordered a Thai iced tea or coffee that I liked here. They don't bother to remedy this. It feels like they don't care, once you've paid. Parking sucks but I you could always park on the street or maybe at Rite Aid. The restaurant is tiny but they utilize every inch but that causes problems with getting in and out of there. The prices are standard for a sit down restaurant in Castro Valley. Lunch is fairly priced but a bit expensive for dinner. I do have to mention that I always order out so it could be better for people that eat there but I wouldn't know. I don't really like how cramped the seating is so carry out is better for me. The majority of the time, we have to wait for food, way longer than they originally said. On our last visit, we had to wait 53 minutes for an order of fried shrimp rolls and fried rice. I don't know why, but I ordered a Thai iced coffee while I was waiting. It was disgustingly sweet and watered down at the same time. We were glad to get out of there after we finally got the order but came to find out that they didn't even include dipping sauce, napkins or utensils. I opened up the fried rice and it only had a two pieces of each seafood and only one piece of shrimp. Wth? Anyway, I don't think this place is worth the price. I'd rather go to the other Thai place just down the street from this one.

Meh. Decent. I've heard a lot of hype about this place, so I had to see it for myself. I was meeting up with some friends for dinner, so I ordered a few dishes to go... chicken pad thai, pork param, basil eggplant, and beef pad see ew. Overall, the food was decent, but nothing special. I've definitely had better Thai food, even locally in the East Bay. I was particularly disappointed with the noodle dishes... the noodles were overcooked perhaps, very soggy and mushy texture. Also, the servers were not so friendly when I picked up the food, they seemed like they were in a rush and kind of rude when I asked them questions. Talking to our friends, they have experienced some rude service when they've eaten there for lunch, but they did comment that the lunch specials are worth it. Maybe that's what makes this place four stars on yelp... so maybe I'll have to try the lunch special. But until then, just a decent Thai place to me, nothing special.

I would definitely hit this place up for their thai tea with cream and their fried bananas with coconut ice cream. Their sweets are beyond amazing, however aside from dessert, I just didn't like the food very much. It was okay, but seemed very generic.

    (4)
  • Leah L.

The food is so delicious! Their lunch prices are great and you even get a free drink (same on the weekends). The BBQ meat is soooooooo tasty. Its not too rough to chew through and it is marinated just right. The waitresses are really nice and attentive. Sometimes they forget to bring the hot sauce but with a little reminder they do bring it to you.

  • Lauren S.

My dad and I had take-out from here. The veggies were fresh - I liked that they were under-cooked. But overall, especially after just returning from a month in Thailand, I am sorry to say I deem the 2 of the 3 dishes were ordered flavorless, and the rice under-cooked.... Could have just been a one-time thing (but it will remain just that one time, for me), so check it out yourself!

Really really cute lil place...its small but cozy too. I love the decorations and how the place is set up. This place is a lil pricey but all around good. Service was just as good and the food came out within 10mins of ordering. Definitely has big portions and offers alcohol, and desserts. GOTTA TRY THE FRIED BANANAS with ICE CREAM!....yes very good indeed! The only down fall about this place is the location and parking. If you drive by fast you will miss it. I didnt know this place existed till my friend and I ate here the night before. You have to eat the dessert if you come here!

  • Megan M.

We tried three dishes. The curried duck was amazing. But the pad thai noddles and chicken satay were bland - more on the level of a take out restaurant then a sit down place. Cute decor and decent service swayed me to rating this place a three over a two, but we'll be trying the thai place across the intersection before coming back to Top Thai again.

Love their food, and their service. The only drawback is the parking. Residents hate the parking is consumed by the restaurant goers. Otherwise a great place to eat!

This is a staple for my wife and I. We love the place and the staff. In fact, when my wife was just about to give birth to our daughter, she asked if we could stop at Top Thai as "her last meal" and we had some soup, Kee Mao chicken and then we headed right over to the hospital and 20 hours later she gave birth to our little girl! They're expanding to the spot next door, and hopefully they don't lose their personal touch or food quality! I personally now have a favorite dish here, but beware, it's full, full, full of garlic. It's the Lemon Fish and it's on the specials menu. It's a steamed sea bass covered with minced garlic and limes (yes limes). It's a very tasty and light fish dish, but you won't be getting a kiss for about 24 hours. Seriously. More garlic than they serve at the Stinking Rose up in the city.

WOW... great value... I went to Top Thai for lunch today... and with the lunch special, you can pick anything on the lunch menu, which comes with house salad (some items also come with rice), plus a drink of your choice (most ppl pick thai ice tea), all for just $6.99... WOW... that is such good value!! And the taste is not bad either... it's pretty good!! The other menu prices are reasonable as well... This is a small nice neighborhood restaurant... only a few tables...

I tried quite a few dishes including Pad Thai, Greeen curry with beef and one other dish i can't quite remember. We waited a little longer than average for our food but when it came out all dishes were hot so I'm guessing it may have been a bit of a busy day for the kitchen. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated with authentic Thai decor and staff was also nice. Overall I'd say the food was good and I'd go back there.

The best thai spot around! I love this restaurant! I have since moved from Castro Valley after living there for over 18 years. I have yet to find a similar place that hits my thai cuisine cravings! The waitresses and waiters are amazing, they always remembered me and my favorite dish: the Thai Basil Eggplant. Yum! I highly recommend them if you are in the area. They are always friendly and the food is always hot and delicious! :)

Finally found a good decent thai restaurant near our home. This review is on take out since it was raining that day and my husband went out to buy dinner home. Definitely love the angel wings. definitely worth 2 stars for that alone. I think the dip that came with it was fine. but i prefer it with siracha as it offers more kick. But you only get two wings for that price, which makes it a lil pricey. We also had the pumpkin curry with chicken. that was very good. I like that the spice was a right balance. I just really hate it when some thai restaurants make it wayyy too sweet. we had the satay, I could pass on that. Not my favorite thing but otherwise still a very yummy meal. We'll come back for sure.

This was my first time visiting with my best friend. We loved this place! I recommend the Basil Chicken, Pine Fried Rice & Thai Iced tea w/ cream super yummy!! Good service and very quick. We received our food in 7mins or less..didn't feel rushed at all while eating 30mins-1hour before closing. Good seating with a warm cozy feel. I look forward to coming back!

Love coming here for lunch.. everytime I am in Castro Valley, I eat lunch here.. Food is good and the service is fast. The servers are also nice which is a plus. Love their pad kee mao and thai ice tea but the other foods are great too. I strongly recommend!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I always call in my order and pick it up on my way home from BART. Usually it's ready by the time I drive down there, so I can just pop in, pick up the deliciousness, and pop out. Insert Michael Scott joke here. I've had the beef version and veggie version Pad See Ew (with added egg, because eggs), the chicken version and the veggie version of the green curry, of course their rice, and the mango with sticky rice. Do yourself a favor and try ALL THE THINGS. So. Freaking. Good. I live 20 minutes away from this place, and I STILL want to go even when I'm not close. Ugh. Gimme. Need. More. Now. BRB - need to go get me some of dat.

This was such a nice little place for lunch, glad my boyfriend chose this, we haven't had Thai food in a while and this place was up to par. The food was great! We tried the fried sweet potatoes with the coconut batter, very crunchy and sweet. The boyfriend had the honey beef, which was kind of tough but he seemed to like it. I wish I had known the differences between curry because I seemed to have picked the spiciest one. Green curry! *shakes fist* Why must you be so spicy and yet so delicious? Anyway, I had enough rice, which was actually a complaint of one of my friends, who later told me that rice refills were free. So yay for that! Service was amazing, it wasn't super busy when we arrived but when we were almost done with our meal, it was crawling with people and everyone seemed satisfied. Only TWO servers were working but they were ON IT! They took down orders and immediately brought out complimentary salads and drink orders so fast it was like someone else prepared them and they just delivered them. But no! They did it all, and a good tip seemed very necessary. The decorations in here are all for sale by the way! I hope nobody buys them because they sure make for a nice atmosphere.

You're ever in Castro Valley and enjoy Thai food, make sure you stop by this place! Huge portions, really great prices, and friendly service. All the art work you see in the restaurant is imported by the staff and owners from Thailand and it's for sale! Ask for prices if you see something you like :)

This is my favorite place to have Thai food in Castro Valley! I've been to Thailand twice and their food is as authentic and delicious as the homeland. The staff is eager to serve and very warm and welcoming. I highly recommend the yellow curry chicken.

Food is great, delivery not so much. They advertise delivery service in all of Castro Valley. Every single time I call hoping tonight may be my lucky night its the same thing. Hi order for delivery please, oh very sorry we are not delivering tonight. Its been over 5 times now. STOP advertising delivery if you aren't going to deliver. Simple concept.

Food is pretty good for Castro Valley, however their service is AWFUL. I went in to get a to go order and after running a few errands and 45 minutes later the food was still not ready. Not sure how long it takes for sit down, but this was unacceptable.

This place is not somewhere you want to go. they almost killed my child. my child has an allergy to nuts and after telling them a total of 3 times to not put any nuts in the food they're serving us they put it in their pad Thai. worst of all they try to HIDE it as if not seeing it will make it better and the only thing they did is offer me a discount. a discount won't keep my child alive. emergency rooms aren't fun for a child dicks. get out of business if you don't know how to run a restaurant.

Time for an update! This restaurant has moved to the top of my list of favorite Thai places. They expanded their space last year, so a lot more tables, but still the warm and friendly welcome and responsive service. My favorite dishes here are the Pumpkin Curry with chicken -- WOW! This is incredibly delicious, and I literally crave it all the time! They also have the best Tom Kha Gai soup aruond! It is so flavorful, a bit spicy, but with all the hints of lemongrass, golanga, and coconut milk. It is a rich soup, so if you order it with dinner, consider the other dishes so you won't get too full. My dining companions love the fresh spring rolls -- these are not fried, and they always get the vegetarian ones with tofu. I like the satay beef -- it is tender and so tasty! The parking lot is kind of weirdly laid out, so be careful as you park so you're not blocking someone in. There's also street parking, so don't worry. Yay for Top Thai! And lots of bonus points that they offer delivery!!! Thank you!!!

My friend P is a foodie, and when she told me this was the best Thai restaurant in Castro Valley I knew I was in for a treat. Entree #14, I'll be darned If I remember what it was called, was a salad with calamari, shrimp, and mussels. It was excellent, the seafood wasn't over cooked, the iceberg lettuce was very fresh, and the dressing complemented the dish. We also had the BBQ chicken and it was also a winner.

Great Thai place in the area. Shrimp pad thai Hot & Sour soup with noodles Sweet sticky rice with fresh mango Everything was very good. Pad thai was not greasy at all, like it so often is at other restaurants, soup was perfectly spicy. Dessert was oh-so yummy (though they kind of skimp out on the portion of rice--not much for $5). *Street parking *Best to call in to-go orders

So I was unhappy with what I had for lunch. Felt stuffed yet hungry. Wanted to eat for dinner but felt like I couldn't eat anything heavy. Wanted to make soup but all we had was a frozen meat and a wilted celery. I decided to look up some restaurants on yelp who would deliver food. I saw Top Thai with 4 stars and Yes! They deliver! I called them hoping they would still deliver because it was almost 8 at night. The lady answered, told me they do but with a $20 minimum for order. It was very helpful because it helped me figure which to order to reach the amount before I started ordering. I had to call back and the lady took my order. She was very patient so even though I had hard time understanding her, she deserved my patience too. I think this is the best Thai food I have ever eaten. I ordered for delivery with $20 minimum which is not bad because they deliver it on time and even in the evening. I ordered Po Tak for $9.95 which is a seafood soup and it was good. It has mussels, fish, shrimp and scallops in it. I loved it. I also ordered crispy wings ($6.95) and spring rolls ($6.50) in their appetizer menu, not as good as the soup but i liked it.

This place was hopping on Saturday night, but the service was still quick and attentive, and the noise level wasn't too overwhelming. Everything we ordered was delicious, some standouts were: ~Fresh spring rolls! So yummy! Minty and balanced with just the right amount of tofu. ~Tom Kha Soup was fresh and not tooooo spicy, but still had a bit of a kick. ~The pad see ew noodles came in a generous portion, and tasted fresh and nummy. ~Pumpkin curry, I love the sauce, but could take or leave the texture of the pumpkin itself. It provides a nice sweetness to the curry and chicken, though.

I only went here once and was not impressed by the food. One of the things I ordered was vegetable fried rice. The rice was ok, not great, but the veggies were not fresh and clearly came out of a can.. I could easily pick out which can at a grocery store. I guess I am spoiled by Lime Leaf Thai where they use fresh veggies in their veggie fried rice.

just moved to castro valley from fremont and tried this thai place around the corner. All I can say is that the food is incredible!!! I was use to going to sala thai in fremont but I gotta admit top thai has much more flavor and better portions to their food. I'm here atleast once a week!! :)

I'm here right now writing this...ugh first time here and never again! Hubby and I ordered pad see yew and the green curry. The green curry was water down and portion is smaller here to compare other Thai I went to. Now the bad part: pad see yew with beef...nasty nasty! Beef taste so bad that hubby n I refused to eat it. Complained to the waitress about it. She just brushed it off like nothing! Just walk away and didn't apologize or what so ever. Not even offer changing our order or comp jus drink or something. Never gonna go here. And don't expect tip from us either. Service was meh.

I ordered to go, the food is terrible. The papaya salad tasted like it was left over, I have to throw it in the trash. The Tom sum soup tastes like package instant noodle spicy soup. The curry beef is not good. I will never come here again. It was good several years back before they change owner. The place looks better with the renovation, but the food taste terrible. And they also mass up the pad Thai, it was too much vinegar, and the noodle is lumped together. I never taste Thai food like this.

Food here is not bad - especially their stuffed angel wings. Loveeee them! Their curry sauce is often a bit watery, which is a shame since Thai curry is already rather thin. Price wise they're also acceptable. So what drops them down to three stars? We order delivery 'cause we're lazy and we like eating in our own house. I'd say 2/3 times we call this place, they aren't delivering that night because their driver is out that day, and often on busy takeout days like Friday. This is fine except that well, they say they deliver. But more often than not, they don't. Good enough to get, when you can get it though! UPDATE: Called for delivery yesterday and the woman actually THOUGHT about maybe delivering and then said no. Seriously? They lost an $80 order from that since we were ordering for a group. Jeeez.

I'm a little surprised at some of the reviews here about the bad service or inconsistent food. Yes, we have experienced it being a bit slow but they have been slammed with dine in and to go orders. Anyone paying attention can see that. The other times we have always had great service, never felt rushed or treated rudely. I guess some of these reviews have never had an off day at work, been accused of being less than perfect, etc. Bully for them! We have been coming here for years and it's our go to Thai restaurant in down. The food is always good and never disappoints. The last time we went happened to be for a family birthday dinner. We didn't say anything to the staff but they asked because they say a gift bag. On their own they gave us a free dessert with candles, turned down the lights for the candle in the dessert to shine and sang Happy Birthday to us. Wow! So there is the example of the "rude" staff at Top Thai. Ignore the other reviews and give this place a try. You will be happy and get the pineapple fried rice. I crave that stuff!

Hats off to an owner who listens and cares! We returned to Top Thai and enjoyed a lovely meal. The food was as fresh and flavorful as ever. Service was excellent, right down to the time to pay the bill. No problems at all over the Monday Senior Day discount. It's refreshing to see that there have been measures taken to train the servers on proper procedures and the time taken to clarify what the discount applies to. This is one of the best little Thai spots in the area. Well worth the stop, give it a try.

This will be my first and last time here. The food was average (at best) but the service was flat out BAD. Our server was rude. Without a smile or greeting she ask (demand?) what we wanted. She acted like we were wasting her time when we order a second dish. There were some confusion with the drink order, which is understandable, and when we ask her about it she argue with us and said it was our fault then very angrily brought it out. We pay and left soon after. She was given a 13% tip but if I were paying, I would have left a penny. I have had more pleasant experience waiting at the DMV.

SWEET JEEEZUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's official...I'm in LOVE with Thai food!!! Came here with Annika and boy have I been dreaming about it ever since! I loved this place. From the great ambiance and decorations that makes me feel like I'm in Thailand to the excellent warm customer service. The food was to DIE for!!!! I totally need to broaden my horizons and try something new, however, I can not get over eating Pad See Ewe. Their pad see ewe was EXCELLENT. The noodles were cooked to perfection, the broccoli was steamed and crunchy and the spices almost had me book a ticket straight to Thailand. Also, the portions were so big, I was able to take some home for left overs that tasted ohhh sooo good the day after :) By far an excellent choice we made to eat here!!! Looks like I'll be taking many trips to Castro Valley :)

Nice Thai restaurant right on Castro Valley Blvd in a small strip mall. The interior is adequate. Looks like they must have expanded to the next space because there's a wall separating the dining room. Too bad. We started with their stuffed chicken wings that looked like drumsticks. Pretty tasty. Also had their special fresh shrimp roll which was also good. I went for the BBQ honey chicken. Not sure if they understood my request for dark meat, but it didn't matter because the chicken is served boneless and was moist and juicy. Darned good. Pad thai and spicy pad see mou were also good. Service was very attentive. Parking available in front or on the left east side of the restaurant. Very nice restaurant. Senior discount (age 55+) of 15% on Mondays.

I ordered the Green curry chicken w/ fried rice, I was a little thrown off when it was served mixed together and not separate but was impressed w/ the flavors and texture. Great meal and service overall and the pricing was below what I was expecting. Make sure and order some hot tea w/ your meal, especially if it's cold or during the winter it will really complete the meal.

Been here 3 times over the year with my friends and each time the service was bad. I reason i came back was for the relatively cheap price and decent food. The last time however, our server was just plain rude. I wanted to introduce my family to this place since it was pretty close to home but our server was snappy and got annoyed when we wanted to order more food when she came by. She acted like we were bothering her and she have no time for us. We left without finishing our food or drinks and won't be coming back here again.

I came here today for lunch with my sis. Top Thai is a small restaurant located right next to the Burrito Shop. The inside is nice though, lots of Thai decor. I ordered the chicken pad sew eww. It was wonderful! Also what a HUGE portion, I was amazed out what a big plate of noodles I got! Also delicious though which was an extra plus. Prices here are cheap also- under $10 for most dishes and they have lunch specials and serve salad with most of the dishes. Nice place/good food, service/prices-would return again if in Castro Valley for thai!

I used to come here often when they first opened, but the last couple of times that I've gone in, I've found a few disturbing new changes that are all pointing in the direction of new/lack of management/cutting corners to save some money. 1. The attitudes of the current wait staff SUCK. Some of the rudest, bitchiest ladies u have ever been served by. Might as well have thrown the food at me, for as well as they were treating our table. 2. The portion sizes are half of what they used to be. Literally, a small cup of veg/protein qualifies as your "entree." 3. If you have kids, stay the eff away from this place. They treat you like you have the freaking bubonic plague if you walk in with young ones, even if they're well behaved, then proceed to be even ruder than usual (which is pretty damn rude). They have ONE, yes ONE, booster seat for the whole restaurant, so if you bring more than one kiddo who needs one, they have to share, I guess. Or one will have to stand on the seat (what happened today). All in all, there are better places around town. Find them and eat there! :)

We went there for lunch. Couple of items we ordered were pretty good. By the way, they have a free beverage for lunch. Try their iced tea. Taking one star away for somewhat below par server attitude.

Ordered for pick up not too long ago.. tofu pad thai. (They offer free delivery within Castro Valley for purchases $20 and over.) I was told the order would be ready in 10-15 minutes, I was there between that time. The pad thai was OK - not very flavorful, very sticky and kinda cold by the time I brought it back to the office. This place USED to be really good.. used to.

Cute little spot in CV! I love the purple ceiling & overall decor. Our server was friendly & accommodating. Our food came out quicker than expected. We had spring rolls for an appetizer & they were tasty, but how can you screw up spring rolls? The Thai iced tea was too sweet for my liking, both my husband & I couldn't finish it. We shared beef Panag & pad se ew. The beef Panag was a little more spicy than I'm used to, my husband didn't care for it. The beef was very tender & easy to chew, I enjoyed it. The pad se ew was tasty, not the best I've had but for CV it was pretty darn good. Overall, I had a good time @ Top Thai & look forward to ordering some items to go.

Wow Castro Valley, didn't know you had a place just like this...Without me heading out to the City. Annnnd yey for delivery!! This is one of the best Thai food I've ever had. Crispy Chicken Wings, Beef Pad See Ew & Chicken Yellow Curry = $22 Including tip. Uhhhhh....Hell yeah Top Thai!

I have been to this restaurant twice, but never had the time to review this place. However, I felt I needed to submit a review this time. Once I came with my mom - food was ok (I prefer the Thai restaurant across the street on the same street) and the service was horrible. The servers were rude, never broke a smile and they are very snappy! Second time with my husband recently. I really didn't want to eat there for lunch, but he insisted since he wanted to try the different restaurants in our area (recently moved to CV). Well I was not surprised to receive the same horrible customer service! Again, very rude and defensive...when I asked to be moved to a different table (they sat us near the door and when the door opens - brrrr)...I started walking towards the back to ask her as soon as I finished my sentenced, she said ok ok, and blocked me from passing and ushered me to step at the back and wait for another table! Then, to top it off, she took the customer's order first that came after us, even though we were already seated at our new spot ready to order!! There are so many Thai places in nearby areas, that I don't need to be treated this way! They need our business more than we need them. I won't be eating here again! Also, I read another feedback here where they found things in their food... wow! gives me goose bumps! The one star is for the nice gentlemen that came and gave us our food. He might have been the cook because after that I never saw him again. Now he was very friendly and he did smile and asked if we needed anything else.

Order to-go food! The crispy chicken is extraordinarily super oily. Chicken not crispy at all which it pretty much soaked into a pool of oil. The Pad Thai supposed to be a very common and simple famous Thai cuisine! Not sure how they can make a super dry and sweet and sour noodle instead of Pad Thai. First time patron but most likely is the last time! :-(

Worst experience ever! Meet with expensive over priced food & bad attitudes! I went in for a take out, they don't have a lunch special, I was like okay that is fair for Sunday, then the waitresses keep pointing me to sit at a dark corner in front of the restroom and look over the menu from there. (wtf, no class.... & just wrong) I did sit there while ppl go in & out of the bathroom. When it is time for me to order, they didn't really care much and rush me through it. I was like okay, I can understand that takes out there are no tips, so you don't have to treat me nice at all. That is fine, too, but strike two me, if food is good, I will still come back. Here is the final blow, I waited 20 mins, for a curry, they bring it out to me in the small plastic container that you can find in Safeway, that is not a lunch special, but dinner price $9.15. I was blow away at first, I thought it was a mistake, then the waitresses all told me, yes, that is the dinner...... lead to a question, how small is if it is a lunch special? & how dare you to charge almost $10 for this small curry dish???????????? At this point, I will not ever return to this restaurant EVER! As I expected, I went home, tasted the curry, it was watery, few small piece of chicken, & just not worth $10 of food. Honestly, I can get the same dish at other Thai place for $5 and has better taste / larger portion then this restaurant. The only way for this level of restaurant to charge this price and justify is the restaurant is right next to a movie theater or in the lobby of theater. That is all I am saying. If you feel like waste some $$ and love watery food, this is place is your #1 choice.

To be honest, I have been on a downward spiral lately with lunch spots around Fairview. . . . (Hills of Hayward). Luckily this place on CV Blvd isn't too far away/ This totally is a bright spot of gloomy 'hayward adjacent' with really good food. I was expecting more hole in the wall when I walked in to pick up my order. (which was already complete!) I was amazed on how nicely everything was decorated! It would be great to eat-in at this place. Thai pillows and colors everywhere. I didn't see a picture of the king though - but I didn't look close enough. After having taking cooking classes in Thailand - I have some serious high expectations - I was pleasently surprised with Top Thai and will be returning for many lunches in the future! The 'healthy' ginger chicken was yummy! The rice was nice and fluffy and the side salad dressing was good too! I think if you dine in the lunch special includes a drink! (Thai coffe, thai tea, a few more options in there, etc.)

Good food excellent price! Waiters/waitress may be be smiling at at you, but they are just doing their business and they are nice people, just don't talk much outside works. If they do, probably they recognize you as regular customers. Food is slightly sweeter compare to authentic Thai food, but probably is for suiting American taste.

Three stars for the best Thai food in the area. The food is good, very traditional Thai dishes - pineapple fried rice, pad see ew, etc. - for reasonable prices (although more expensive than what I'm used to in Berkeley). Zero for the terrible to-go service. We ordered to go and asked for delivery since we had guests over. We were told it would take 30 min. Waited over an hour with no call from them. We ended up having to drive out to them to pick it up ourselves. When we picked it up they offered no discount or apology for their mistake. That is unacceptable customer service in my opinion. I understand if you are busy but at least let the customer know! The food was good but not good enough to justify coming back after such bad service.

I've been here a few times, once to dine in and twice to carry out. While dining in the service was average so no complaints and no praise either... They were friendly though so that is a plus. As for carry out, if I call them about 10 or so minutes beforehand(depending on how big the order) it's usually done, packed up and ready to go by the time I get there. Usually order either the pad thai and/or pumpkin curry and if i'm in the mood for sweets, which is always, the mango sticky rice... yummm. The pad thai is good but average as well.. it's what you would generally expect of pad thai but the portion I feel gives you more bang for your buck then at other places in downtown CV(i.e. Lime leaf) My bigger praise would go to the pumpkin curry which is very flavorful and chunky with a generous amount of pumpkin and chicken. This is my go to spot when I crave for pumpkin curry. As for the mango sticky rice... the portion is smaller than I'd like but when I have to have my fix... I don't really care lol

Decent Thai restaurant in my area. I like that Castro Valley is getting more ethnic food and i hope it continues! Okay, here's my speal: This is a very beautiful & well decorated restaurant. I think they bring these things from Thailand and have the decorations for sale as well. The service is very good here, too. I've been here a few times and have always been greeted kindly and attended to. The issue I have with this place is the food. I'm not saying that its not good, but I've been to Thailand many times and I feel like they have skimped on the flavor here to accomodate the castro valley-ites :( I will go here if I'm really having Thai withdrawls - you can always count on the BBQ chicken, soups, and larb salads being good. Just wish the curries had a little more flavor. PS they deliver.

Decor- beautiful and inspiring! Can also be romantic and charming. Food- so tasty and so flavorful. Ingredients are fresh and cooked well. Portions are not big but that is fine by me b/c they compensate that with the taste. Price- Not too expensive. I would recommend that you come here during lunch b/c they offer you free thai tea with your entree. ;) Parking- Not that bad. Parking lot is just small but there are street parkings too. I am making this my place to go for thai food around this area. It is really cute here.

This is definitely a chill place to grab some pretty good Thai food. I like their spicy basil fried rice, it has a little kick which I like. I also recommend the Tom yum soup as well. The staff is really friendly and the restaurant is nice and comfortable and not to loud if that's what you prefer. I usually get take and from there and typically takes around 15 minutes for your order.

I was here for dinner a few weeks ago. The food selection was good - it was hard to choose because everything looked appetizing, but my friend and I decided on the traditional Thai dishes, such as their pad thai, fried rice, pad see yew, and ice tea. I wasn't amazed by the flavors, but I do give them 2 thumbs up for trying. I thought the chicken was a bit dry and the noodles of the pad thai were stuck together too much to enjoy. On a side note, be aware that they have a tiny parking lot.

The usual take-out order: Green curry with steamed salmon, accompanied with broccoli and eggplant; side of brown rice; stir-fried silver noodles (not sure of the name) or pad thai noodles. So good! I love the way they make the salmon curry dish (specified as steamed) and, more importantly, the food here seems and tastes healthier than other thai restaurants-- it's less greasy and less intense in sweetness/tartness, which is well-known in classic thai cuisine. This is a good place to go if you're looking into a quick, tasty, asian meal, and wanting to stay in the CV area.

I've been here twice and it's rapidly becoming my favorite Thai place in the Hayward area. We've had green curry X, tom kha, the BBQ chicken, fried rice, and garlic pepper chicken. Everything so far has been at least good and some are exceptional (fried rice & tom kha). What would keep me going back to Siam Palace, my previous fave, are the green peppercorn duck and the garlic pepper prawns. I think Top Thai doesn't offer either, and IMO the garlic pepper X wouldn't be as good if they made it with prawns.

  • Hannah f.

Delicious!! I had the curry chicken with fried rice and passion fruit juice as a lunch special. I was very yummy. The service was unprofessional as the waitress would bring people their food or drinks while she had food in her mouth. Also it was Halloween and when I asked for the check she told me to hold on a sec while she pulled off her fake eyelashes. So....to say the least...food is awesome, service not so much. Do take out if you dont want to deal with the people there.

If you like Thai that taste sweet this the place for you. If you truly had eaten authentic Thai, then avoid at all cost. Everything had a sweet flavor from the papaya salad (even ask for "HOT") to the ginger pork. Service is like all hole in the wall Asian restaurant, good enough.

I am such a fan that I keep returning, and though I am quite happy with what I've enjoyed there, I've had to force myself to break free and try new things, so glad that I did! More favorites are added to the list: Drunken Noodles: Not labeled as such on the menu, but I asked and the waitress confirmed that (Pad) "Kee Mao" are indeed the drunken noodles. Had always wanted to try these, so cannot compare to others, but it is really good here. Crisp veggies served with the noodles, and I love that the chicken is sliced thin, just makes the whole dish that much better. Yellow curry: Nom nom!! I will try a different curry each time I go here, that is the plan. I love the panang curry here, and now can vouch for the yellow curry as well, and I love that there are not huge potato pieces like I've seen at other Thai restaurants. And the best part is that the chicken is sliced nice and thin, love that!! The flavor was so nicely blended with all of the spices, I can't wait to also try the other curries over time. Fresh spring rolls: We chose vegetarian, but they also have chicken and another meat option (shrimp? can't remember), but I loved the tofu spring rolls. A nice bit of mint throughout and just a good way to start the meal as one anxiously awaits the deliciousness that is to come. I also like the dipping sauce, a light, yet sweet sauce. I'm used to Vietnamese fresh spring rolls with the thick tamarind-peanut sauce, which I love, but this light sauce is equally delicious.

I love this place. Consistently good food and pretty good service. Once of the girls is SUPER nice, and always remembers my boyfriend and I. The place is more casual, pretty quick food and service... I would recommend starting with the Tom Kha soup with chicken MMMMMMM delicious soup broth, perfect amount of creamy and spicy. For an entree I recommend the red curry chicken, can't go wrong. It is similar to the soup in seasonings, but I LOVE this dish. Creamy and spicy and the chicken is super tender. The basil chicken is also tasty if you want a different flavor.

While I feel EVERY restaurant has areas for growth, I feel this one is pretty awesome. The service here from day one has been stellar, the food has always been fresh, flavorful and in abundance. Our glasses were never empty, the food was delicious and had huge portions. My server (can't remember her name) was such a gracious hostess! She checked on us multiple times, and this appears to be a regular habit for her as she's done on EVERY SINGLE VISIT! Not to mention, the prices (during lunch especially) are amazing and very reasonable! You should definitely try this place out! I will continue to be a loyal customer because I get treated well, get served great food at reasonable prices, and they always stay consistent!

I think it's a good place. Quality is pretty consistent, service is always good, and the food is pretty good. I like the spicy basil fried rice (with chicken), though I order it without egg.

  • Dean I.

Man, the quality of food here is really good, very fresh and good portions. Flavor not the best, but not bad. Prices are higher than most Thai places, but the value is still pretty good. The service here is questionable. I had to ask for the beer that I ordered, a box for leftovers, and the check, after waiting a long time for each. Different person took our order, brought the drinks, brought the food, and brought the check. I'd like to think that this is just unorganized and not rude, and willing to give them another try. I have a strong feeling that the staff is likely preoccupied with other cuter, male, white patrons, though. So if you fit that bill, this place is for you! I don't, but I'll roll the dice again here someday.

The food is so good! Delivery is a plus! We love getting the fresh rolls vegetarian. so crispy and fresh! The Tom Ka soup with chicken is always warm and has that extra kick! The pumpkin curry is our favorite! Lots of veggies and the right aboumt of spicy! we have not had a bad meal here yet!

I went here last night with one of my good friend and my experience was very satisfactory!! =) I let the owner order for me because I have no clue what to order. He ordered the Lemon Garlic fish, Garlic Black Pepper beef, and the Basil Eggplant. All of the dishes was great and very tasty too!! The one I sort of dislike was the Lemon Garlic Fish because there was just too much of minced garlic and I couldn't taste the fish. The garlic was very overpowering, but it's great for those who love garlic. Oh and the Thai ice tea was very good, not too sweet!! =) Just the way I like it. The art deco on the wall made the restaurant look very exotic!! =) Love the art!! Plus, you can purchase the arts from the wall if you want to. It was pretty busy when I went there around 8:00 PM. which is a very good sign. Greg, the owner was very sweet and very helpful to all of his customers. =) He said Hello and Goodbye to all of his customers!! Greg has a lot of knowledge about Thailand!! Too bad his wife wasn't there last night, I would have love to meet her!! =) I had to park on the streets because there was no parking in front of his restaurant. Overall, my experience here was wonderful and I would be glad to come back and see what else Greg can surprise me with. Thank you, Greg for your hospitality!!! =)

I've been going to this restaurant for 2 years now. The food never disappoints. The service is an example of excellence. The restaurant's 's decor is unique with it's Thai Paintings & statues. The customer service is excellent as I ordered for pick up near closing time but they still accommodated me as my food was going to be done after closing time. It's a nice place for me to go to break the monotony or change it up form time to time as there are so many Thai restaurants in this area. However I got to say this is the best of all of them.

Came here yesterday with my siblings and my friend for dinner, I been coming here for years now and I've always loved their food. Yesterday I had a completely different experience and it wasn't a good one either I left disappointed that I didn't even bother tipping the waitress and the waiter that were "assisting us". We ordered our food and got the appetizers pretty fast but it took a while for them to give us our main course and after a while one of the waitresses told us they had ran out of the wide pasta they use for the pad see ew (might be misspelled lol) and told us they can use another type of pasta and we said fine but what got me upset was why didn't she tell us when we ordered or at least the cook advise her that there wasn't any of that pasta they use and wait 15 minutes to tell us that there wasn't any! I got disappointed with them specially since she knew we were regular customers smh -_-. we finally got our food and we were low on our water the first time they refilled the waters but the second time i literally had to waive my hand to get out waitress attention! And when she picked up the phone to take an order i waived to get her attention and she ignored us!! I was surprised! And even the other waiter that was there saw and ignored when I had my hand up i look stupid keeping my hand up to get their attention I felt like i was in grade school raising my hand to get the teachers attention lol that was not cool! We finally got the check and paid but did not tip and instead my friend wrote on the receipt good food bad service! Lol it was funny i don't know if i will come here again to dine in but I will probably just do take out instead. In the past they were really on top of their game now the service has gone down hill since the last time i dined in and i think one of the main waitresses that i would usually see bossing people around has not been working these few last times i went for take out but she was great!

Saw Wat Dee Kaa!! so yummy! I usually order: -Brown rice (1 bowl to share) -Yellow curry -pad see ew with chicken -tom kha soup We tried the stuffed chicken wings, I personally didn't like them. I also tried a basil dish, but i'm not a huge fan of basil, but it was good! Service is good! They are constantly walking around cleaning up and refilling water and tea. Also, everything is kept clean and decorated as if you were in Thailand (well at least one of the nicer places in Thailand)! Kap khoon kaa to Top Thai!

This place opens when all other Thai places is close after 3 so it's nice when you really want Thai food. The portion and the good is good. The service on the other hand sucks. Their parking lot fits about 3 or 4 cars in the front and 4 on the other side of the building but they have a lot of street parking.

Been here a few times, this place is surprisingly cozy inside. Ordered take out last night. Got the pumpkin curry and the shrimp pad thai. The pumpkin curry was good. The shrimp pad thai was a joke. I'm not exactly sure just how many pieces of shrimp are supposed to be in a shrimp dish, but I counted four, and that seems stingy. In fact, I had a hard time even finding four shrimp. I had to dig for a few minutes to find them. If four people were to split this dish they'd get one shrimp each. Ridiculous. I'd bet if I ordered beef or chicken I'd find more than four pieces. Sorry but -2 stars for the shrimp pad thai. Very disappointed. ***I stand by my comments that 4 shrimp in a "shrimp" dish is shrimpy. I mean skimpy. Even stingy. But if you read my review and don't order the shrimp pad thai, then the two stars would possibly have been four. It's akin to ordering a pepperoni pizza and getting four pieces of pepperoni. Get my drift?

The old owners sold the place a while back, and unfortunately, it's not as good now. The won ton soup, especially, has fallen in quality. It's still a decent place, but it has fallen back to the pack with the other Thai places in Castro Valley.

Top Thai is definitely my go-to place in CV when I want thai food. The food has always been good and the waitresses and waiter are very friendly. They recognize me as soon as I walk in and greet me with a smile. :-) Sometimes the service is a little slow but that's only during rush hour, when they have tons of customers and To-go orders. They can get very busy! But it's because their food is great! The roast duck is sooo good and I also love the green curry and pad see ew.

This is the last time I'm going to eat here. The tofu tasted like it was spoilt or spoiling, and the staff (specifically one skinny lady) was rude. I used to come here often, but I stopped coming for a while because they were starting to noticeably lag on quality (they served me clearly not-fresh food that time). This time, the attitudes of the servers turned out to be even more foul than the leftovers that they probably served me. Avoid.

This is by far the best Thai I've found in the hayward/castro valley area. The spicy basil fried rice and mango curry are amazing! Try the curry puffs appetizer too, a totally unexpected treat! We eat here or get take out about once a week and it's always good.

Food and service is not what it once was. It is still pretty good, but overall quality has definitely taken a hit.

I love Thai food and I have been to this place a few times. It doesn't stand out among the rest and doesn't necessarily disappoint. It's A-OK.... I would meet at this place if people wanted to go but I wouldn't choose it on my own.

I've been here twice and both times were for dinner. Once was for a birthday dinner. Another was with friends on a Thursday night. Since we were all coming from different locations, we decided on a central city, which was Castro Valley. The restuarant is easy to find and name is hard to miss since the sign is pretty big. However, parking is limited. As we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. The restaurant isn't extremely large, but it has a cozy feel to it. The atmosphere is nice and it looks very authentic. The hostess was friendly and when she came by to take our order. We were so busy talking that we hadn't figure out what we had wanted. We all decided to do family style and when she came back, we were ready to order. We got the Pad Thai with Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Ginger Pork, and Yellow Curry Beef. Having the name Top Thai, I had high expectations for the food. The pad thai was tasty and had some flavor, but a little more would have been better. The fried rice was a little bland. I enjoyed the ginger pork and yello curry beef. I would come back if in the area. However it wouldn't be my first choice.

My favorite thai place in the area... They deliver (not sure how far) and have great lunch specials that even includes a beverage - yay for free thai iced tea! They also have wi-fi in case you can't get away from the internet during a meal. Get the praram. Yum.

Stunningly appalled at how many good reviews this place has received. I'm not a huge Thai critic or oriental food expert, but one thing is certain, the people of Castro Valley and all you bay area folks that think this is some great place have got your head up your a$$. What are you sniffing? It is most certainly not good curry. My heart is one star, I gave two stars for potential. I am trying to more positive in my life these days so let me start with the positives: - The decor was nice. I liked the painting on the walls. Unfortunately, I didn't come here to enjoy an art gallery. - The house-made sweet and sour sauce that was served with the appetizers was good. Unfortunately, the appetizers weren't. - They have rice. It's a good thing rice is served at Thai places. I mean, it is great of them to ask if you want rice after your dish is served! But let's all be happy for RICE! We love rice! Eat more rice! I'm simply grateful they had rice. - The vegetables were as fresh as could be, as far as I could tell. I'm sure they are at least a week old, but I'll give them the beny of the doubt... The veggies tasted good. - Forget the $hitty un-crispy duck that they served, it is ALL and ONLY about the dipping sauce. That stuff is the BOMB! I would have rather paid $12.95 for that, knowing that I am getting a kick a$$ blend than that much for a soft duck! Stop skinning that cat and make a good duck chef! - The tea was good and drinkable. - The price is cheap. That is if you can put up with $hitty service and sub-par cooking. Well, that is all the good stuff. Let me get onto the bad points of this false prophet of a Thai joint. - Thai people are generally really nice. Unlike their Korean brotheren, they don't get as angry so quickly and usually ease more nicely into conversation. From the instant I met our hostess / waitress I knew this was going to be a bad trip. First off, lesson in California = Smiling, although sometimes you have to FK#$king fake, is generally a good idea if you run a restaurant and are trying to make money. Especially from people that don't know $hit about good Thai (apparently from this yelp page).... you have to smile and put on that FRONT. Get out there ladies and smile! Okay, what I spoke about just above was really the aura of the person that they gave off. Now lets get to the actual service. - I ordered a beer from the waitress. It never came. I had to walk to the bar. - My date ordered a tea and it never came. When i went to the bar to get my beer, I tested them to see if they would remember tea as well, or at least check their order. Nope, they just served the beer. I didn't say anything. I let my woman ask that one to the waitress. I hate it women get upset. - Eventually the food came (I'll get to that poor excuse of sustenance later) and when the dishes came, they did not have rice with them. Now I am totally cool that rice is extra at Asian places. The rice is separate. No big deal. But, maybe they should have asked before hand when they TOOK OUR FREAKING ORDER. - You still aren't smiling are you? I'd pay you to smile just a little bit. - Oh wait, another positive, they packed my stuff to go. I mean I didn't have to do it? Wow. Okay. This one goes under the positive column. Haven't gotten to the food yet. Here we go: - For appetizers we ordered the stuffed angel. Now this sounds like a silly food, but apparently at many Thai places, it is quite a popular thing. It is a chicken wing (or leg?) with the bone taken out and stuffed inside with minced chicken. Weird, I know. But u guess they eat this $hit. I give. The sauce was good. The chicken was dry and bland, but had this nice crunch and I liked the dipping sauce. After dinner was served, I realized how crappy that was and went back to the unfinished appetizers. - Duck. It should be crispy. It wasn't. It was soft and gooey. Duck is supposed to be an enjoyable specialty. It felt like I was eating sub-par PF Changes Orange chicken that had been under-microwaved, sat in a bowl of water for 20 minutes and then put under a heat lamp for 10 then served up! WhaaaaLLLAAAA! At least the sauce was good, did I mention that. - The BBQ Chicken was too sweet. Uhhhhggggg... Yuck. Bad teryaki gone mad! On a serious note, I will never be back to this joint. I had fun laughing about how horrible this place was after we left, but then I realized that laughter cost about 45 dollars all together. Nothing in the larger scheme of life, but I'm just saying.... and more importantly, you people of Castro Valley have a serious taste bud problem. What are you thinking?????? Thanks for reading, I hope I made you laugh at times even though I am still dead serious on how $hitty this place is of a restaurant.... Please go to a nice Thai hood, up in Berkeley or in San Francisco if you want a true Thai culinary experience. Thanks again. Peace.

After starving all night over an order that never arrived I swore to never patronize this restaurant. However, they stopped by the next day, apologized and gave me a free order of food. Apology was accepted and their food was delicious. I would definitely give them another try.

Dropped in for lunch today. Not too busy, maybe three or four tables. Service was friendly and efficient. We had Fresh Shrimp Rolls for an appetizer. They were okay. A little gummy and the shrimp got lost in the filling. I had Seafood Casserole served in a clay pot over rice that was pretty good. The rice absorbed all the wonderful seafood broth giving it a rich flavor. My dining partner had Thai Fried Chicken which were really Thai spiced chicken cutlets served with curried egg fried rice. Both were very tasty but it would have been good to have some kind of vegetable on the plate as well.

YAY. Their Pad Thai is delicious! Just thinking about it makes me hungry....... Usually there is no wait, fast service. The only thing is that if you order to go, they give you a smaller portion. Try their mango sticky rice! It's soooooooo good.

I actually meant to go to First Thai Hut (across the street from Longs Drugs) but there was a sign that said "Bangkok 505 Coming Soon". What the heck?? Did a Thai restaurant close so that another one can open? It better be different ownership! Anyhow, my friend and I just continued driving down Castro Valley Blvd. and this place (coincidentally Thai) was open so we decided to give it a try. Parking is a little difficult because there aren't that many spaces so you can just park on the street. Once we got in, I saw that the entire little restaurant was adorned with Thai artifacts...from different vivid cloths, to traditional Thai wear, fans, dolls and a lot of other things you find at the night market there. Once you enter, there's a glass case on the left filled with purses that are on sale for about $17 each (which cost about $5 max at the night market in Bangkok). There was even some decor outside in front of the restaurant which definitely adds to the emptiness outside. There are a bunch of tables for parties of two to four to six. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to really big parties even on weeknights which you assume would be less crowded but the restaurant was filled on a Tuesday night! Something I noticed that looked appealing were the lunch specials because it comes with "complimentary" thai tea, salad & ice cream. We ordered Pad Thai ($8.95) and Yellow Curry ($7.95) with some Jasmine rice ($1 per person). The yellow curry was not as thick as I like it at other places and a little bland. Beef was also slightly chewy. The pad thai had a nice light flavor and they give you a lot. Service was pretty good; our waitress came back frequently to ask how we were doing and packed up our leftovers for us (I like it when they do this as opposed to just giving you the empty boxes). Overall - I am giving them 3 stars for effort. It's hard opening up a real restaurant in barren Castro Valley where all they have are fast food restaurants, no joke!

Went on a Monday afternoon for lunch. Place was fairly empty but the service was very slow to start. I felt ignored at first. Once our order was taken, however, things sped up and before I knew it we had our food. Everything was delicious. The pad thai tasted different from what I'm used to. It was sweet and glaze-like. Still yummy though. I would dine here again but I think I still prefer Paya Thai.

While in Hayward, I checked out Top Thai. I had the Vegetarian Tom Yum and the Pad See Yew. The Tom Yum was a little watery and not as tangy as I'd have liked. But the Pad See Yew was nicely made -- both the chicken and noodles were nice and tender. I'd come back if I'm ever back in the area to try their fried rice. Someone at another table ordered it and it smelled delicious.

Definitely the best Thai restaurant in Castro Valley. Basil rice very nice, red curry one of the best I have had in 30 years of eating Thai, squid salad very good but not great. Pad Thai very flavorful. Servings generous. Coconut ice cream with sticky rice and friend bananas with mango ice cream were excellent, some really superior ice cream. Prices low, with 15% discount for over 55 in age. Strongly recommend, only Thai place I will eat at in Castro Valley.

My boyfriend and I are quite fussy about Thai food. But we've been to Top Thai a number of times and have liked everything. Last night, I tried their yellow chicken curry fried rice special, and it was my favorite so far. Also, they are open 365 days per year. (I'd prefer this to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.) And the only one who works there that isn't Thai is the owner. But, don't worry, he doesn't cook. :-)

THANK YOU! for staying open for us!! My friend in the city got off work late, and we all were starving (her from working from 6am til 9pm, us from walking around the city for 10 hours) and she knew of this Thai place. So we called to place an order for pick-up, knowing they close at 10pm, and then got caught in traffic and rain. So we called again to apologize, and they said, keep coming, they'll stay open for us - thank you! We made it there by 10:10pm, and there was the owner? and a very nice Thai women waiting with our food - they earned their tips that night!! When we got home and opened up our food - it was better than I expected (we are spoiled with some great Thai places in San Diego) - we all ordered the Pad Kee Mao, 2 with pork, 1 with chicken, and the servings were huge (though I ate the entire thing), and tasty. Great, large noodles :-) Prices seem to be average for Thai food. (=good) The only thing keeping me from giving this place a 5, is that the dishes were a bit too oily for my taste.

So, I have to say that the quality of food at Top Thai has gone down since 2009. The food does not seem flavorful, they curries are watery, and the noodles and bland and the portions are small. Ever since I started going to Red Chili a while ago, I can't even compare the 2 restaurants. I don't know if the kitchen staff or the ownership changed, but I'm sad to say that I won't be visiting Top Thai anytime soon.

Now that we're all local, we get delivery from Top Thai. We love them because we call right after the twins are asleep, which is maybe 5-10 minutes before Top Thai closes (OK, sometimes after!) ... and they still bring us delicious food! That is a good neighbor. Thank you, Top Thai!!!

After many more visits to Top Thai I've enjoyed the ambiance of their newly expanded restaurant. The service is great and fast. Our new favorite is the coconut milk soup and red curry along with my favorite Pad See Ew, it's the perfect tummy warming meal on a cold chilly fall day. It sure is TOP for a reason!

I love this place!! Well, let me start off first by announcing that I LOVE Thai food and I almost always order one of 3 dishes: pad see ew, pineapple fried rice or pad Thai. With that said, I know if those 3 dishes are of good quality or not and this place is definitely AWESOME. The first time I came here, I ordered to go because I was on my way to work. I ordered my pad see ew with chicken and then I was told to take a seat while I waited for my food. The waitress was really nice and brought me a cup of tea too, so that I could drink it while I was waiting. It didn't take too long for the food to finish cooking and I was on my way. Let me make it a point to say that these portions are huge! I could barely even finish half of my pad see ew when normally I would finish the whole thing! I brought the leftovers home and ate the rest of it at night. (still good!) During my next visit there, I went with the boy and found out that we get a free drink with our lunch entree as long as we dined there. I missed out the first time because I got it to go! This time we got pineapple fried rice and pad see ew to share. (See how much I love those dishes? xD) we also got thai iced tea and another tropical sounding drink. I forgot what it was called but both were verrrrry good. Again, the food came in gigantic portions and both of us had trouble finishing our lunch. The pineapple fried rice had large pieces of pineapple in it, which I LOVED and pad see ew was absolutely delicious again. I absolutely love this place and would like to come eat here every weekend but the boy would probably get annoyed at that so I only suggest this place every other weekend. ;) The staff here is also very very nice and tries to take care and please all their customers. The atmosphere here is very friendly and helpful. I think I'm in love.

This is a cute restaurant with fun decor. The service is always friendly and the food is tasty. Nice, local spot to frequent. I would give them another star if they served young coconuts, a requisite for an above-average Thai restaurant.

Horrible horrible....ordered delivery to my hotel room... No fork, no spoon...no receipt...took me 25 min to order since lady barely spoke english... Food is here... I ordered soup but the curry i ordered is more watery than soup... I am "eating" soup not drinking it... zero water content....i also found piece of plastic in soup, so i threw away all foods.... didn't even bother myself to call the place since it would take another 25 min. so they know i am complaining not complimenting maybe....Man i am pissed!!!! Why this place has 4 stars!!!! :\....Yelp doesn't have zero star option, otherwise i would go with that... going back to LA to have coconut soup from my favorite place in Glendale,ca...real soup....

EXCELLENT food, service and pricing! Everything is delcicious, but I esepcially love the Cashew Chicken entree. But again, it's all very good. I love the option of calling in my order or eating there. I also appreciate that my order is always correct and that is saying something about service! I would add that because the location is on a quieter block of the Blvd., parking is easy, which is a plus!

I am impressed with the decor given its tiny stripmall location. It's as classy as I could expect for Castro Valley. Their food is spot on. They also are very very nice. Their tofu is perfectly fried. Their pad se ew is the best I've had in CA, and I really like the mun tod (which I haven't found elsewhere) - deep fried sweet potatoes with plum sauce. My new go-to.

  • Jeanine M.

I have been here about 5 times since I discovered them a few years ago. The place is a little small but it's very decorative and colorful inside. The waiters are very friendly, they seat you quick, and bring you waters and menus right away. The pricing for the food is very good for the amount they give you. I usually order the thai fried rice and they bring you a giant plate of it! The portions are very generous. I also tried some of my friends yellow curry from here and it was very sweet and spicy. It was a perfect blend and delicious over white rice. Parking is either on the street or in their lot but it is a tiny lot since they share it with a burrito shop. Location is right along castro valley blvd which makes it very easy to find. I definitely crave this place when I want some Thai food. You'll leave here satisfied for sure!

Grateful to have a decent Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. The food is fresh, tasty...though just a little watered down in the spice level. Nice vibe. Got our order wrong but it was quickly redone. Pumpkin curry with prawns had good flavor, albeit the pumpkin slightly undercooked. Seafood in salad was perfectly done. Not an easy feat for a mix.

minus one star for f#cking up the pad Thai. minus one star for f#cking up the red curry with beef. minus one star for f#cking up the Thai iced tea. minus one star for f#cking up the delivery time. minus one star for making a female employee do late night deliveries. that's f#cked up. Top Thai - you are at the top of my "do not eat Thai food from here" list.

Ok this place has ok food. But the thing that got me was that the Waitresses speak about 2 english words. And dont ask For any kind of extra sauce ( even when you offer to pay for it!) They will give you attitudefor it. I appriciare the owners response but i do not need To be insulted if most of your customer base is English speaking learn the language! As for me being More comfortable at "dennys" thats an insult and a bad one! I frequent most "ethnic" places and have not had a problem With the staff not speaking english , however beig rude Nd giving the customer looks as if they are a bother Is not good . I will not frequent your small ,humid bussines and Will not recommend it to 1 person

Prices are fair, service is good enough The chilis are awesome and the flavor of the dishes is decent. Desserts aren't their strong point though Parking is so so, mostly on street. Ambience is okay Considering how awful the rest of the area and other dining choices are, this is like a hidden gem that I'm surprised hasn't gone out of business for having such an odd location.

I guess I did not experienced the bad service - our waitresses were so nice! We got our food fairly quickly and got everything we asked for - water, hot sauce, etc. I ordered the red curry and my friend got the pineapple fried rice - both were pretty good! This is probably one of my favorite Thai places in this area! Now that I just saw tons of people raving about the lunch specials - I gotta try it!

Throughout my senior year of highschool, my friends and I were always looking for good eats after our last class. Whenever we were feeling Thai, this was the go to place! And it did the job by giving us our daily food coma. Three stars for the clean, cute interior, and satisfying dishes. I've tried their lunchtime house salad, and it's really good with a fair amount of lettuce and dressing. I always get the Pad Thai, either shrimp or chicken and most of the time, it's delicious, the typical thai noodle dish with the right amount of spices and flavor (I always get my food thai spicy, I love SPICY!) Although a couple months ago, I brought my two girls here and we ordered their pad thai which wasn't very flavorful the way that I usually like it. It was blan and a bit dry, but hey... I guess everyone has their bad days, right? Btw, Pad see ew is also very good but every Thai Cuisine I enter, Pad Thai is a must. Vegetarian rolls, an appetizer, consists of bean sprouts, lettuce, carrots, basil and rice noodle wrapped with soft and thin rice paper and served with house special sauce w/ ground peanuts. Sooo good! Especially if you are a veggie lover, they put a mint leaf as well which completes the whole experience! Their Pineapple fried rice is also delish! The Bbq Beef is tender and flavorfull, also good. Btw, it's always a must to get a Thai iced tea, which are amazing but sometimes my palette isn't feeling too sweet so I'll wash it down with a nice cold cup of h2o. I'm always to full for dessert but somehow I make room, Fried banana w/ coconut ice cream: YUM. Mango sticky rice is de-lish as well! Overall, great atmosphere, fair prices and tasty food. A nice eat out if you're passing by Castro Valley or around looking for an authentic Thai Cuisine.

While it is not the best Thai I've had, I haven't had a bad experience here yet and I've been a regular for years. Service is always friendly and while some of the curries have been on the watery side, all their sautéed dishes have been excellent. I recommend their eggplant dish or the pineapple fried rice. I prefer their pad see ew over their pad Thai, the latter seems to always have less flavor but both are sis picks. Dessert here is also always on par! Mango and sticky coconut rice FTW! Clean interior, nice decor. Seems to continue to be a local favorite. There is ample seating. I always manage to get a table, no matter how big of a group i come with. I'll probably keep coming back!

This is the only Thai place we go to and take all our friends to. My friend Terri actually found this on Yelp and took us along to try it out. Soooo good. The peanut beef thing is amazing! That is what has left the biggest impression. We also get some kind of pumpkin curry thing that's amazing (this is why I don't apply for food critic at the chronical, my extensive use of the word "thing"). Great Thai iced tea, too! They have a seafood plate that's fantastic, too.

I had high expectations of this place since all the reviews were positive. Sadly, it was disappointing. Kept it simple since it was my first trip here and ordered the papaya salad, red chicken curry, and shrimp pad thai. The papaya salad was flavorful but had absolutely no heat. A little spice would've been nice! Maybe I was being presumptuous in assuming that Thai dishes would come standard with some heat. Moving on, the shrimp pad thai had literally 3 shrimp in it. I'm not saying it has to be full of shrimp but the name is a little misleading I was expecting at least a minimum of 5 shrimp. The best dish I had was the red curry. It had a nice flavor and just enough spice hence why I gave this review an extra star. Since I took my order to go I don't have thoughts about the service but since the food didn't win me over I might not be returning anytime soon. Sorry, I really wanted to like you top thai.

Top Thai serves food fit for royalty. I was taking my wife out for our anniversary. We had play tickets for a Marty Nemko directed play, Neil Simon's 'Broadway Bound' at the Castro Valley Chanticleers theatre and I wanted a fine local dining place to memorialize the event. A good Castro Valley friend referred me to Top Thai, so my expectations were high. Top Thai did the trick. Not pretentious, but the dining room atmosphere transcends the ordinary neighborhood outside. Way cool. It was like a mini vacation to Thailand, but better because it is a clean, well lighted space, and appointed with colorful cultural artifacts. Obviously, the owners designed traditional dining room settings in a tasteful way. The wait staff dresses in traditional garb, is attentive and courteous. I'm liking this and growing more eager to smell and taste the food. You don't want to be in a rush when coming here. It's best to give yourself ample time to absorb the sensations. I'd say 90 minutes is good. I got the strong sense that many of my fellow diners are regulars here, sophisticated foodies. In a separate dining room area, I saw bigger table arrangements and I a family with the kids joyously partaking too. We ordered the green papaya salad, tom kha chicken soup, red pumpkin curry, and cashew queen. Oh boy, I ran out of stomach. Fresh, wow. I'd pass on the salad in the future, but all of main dishes served were seasoned and prepared to my liking. They clear the plates and are pleased to pack goodies to go. Next time, I will try the duck or seafood as the chicken was a bit dry. I'd recommend this place as the number one spot to go if you're around CV.

Ive had a lot of Thai food in a lot of places and this place was a pleasant surprise to me in terms of ambience and service, the food, not as much. The owner and the servers are very friendly and try their best to serve their customers. The place is nice and clean. However, its the kinda place you wanna go too on your lunch hour on a weekday. Lunch is served with a fresh salad and ice tea. I love the fact that this place also serves Brown rice for an extra buck. I ordered a beef with spicy red curry and ground chicken with long beans. I personally thought that the food was ok, but ive had better. The Red Curry lacked spice and the thick "gravy-like" texture its suppose to have. Maybe, they're just trying to cater to a certain crowd by keeping the spices lower but I just love orignality. Verdict: ill go back for a quick lunch with my work buddies

Best Thai I have ever had...so far. I have been here 3 times and I have been satisfied each time. Nicely decorated, quick to get seated and clean. They sell items as well like jewelry and small trinkets. I noticed my first time here was during dinner hours that the phone was ringing off the hook for delivery and pick up orders which is a great sign the place is popular. There is something for everyone, the food is fresh and the service is great. I like the lunch specials during the week, good size serving of food with a soft drink and a soup for around $8.00.

This is one of the cooler Thai places I've been to. The indoor decorations can't be matched by any other Thai restaurant I've been to in the Bay Area. Smooth green color of the walls matched with various different types of bright and colorful Thai artwork makes for a really ambient and warm atmosphere that hits you right as you enter the restaurant. Real big change from the outside busyness of Castro Valley. First off, the customer service here is probably the best I've had ever at a Thai restaurant. I'll admit, I made a stupid accident when I ate here tonight. I ordered a Chang beer (yay they have Chang!) and right as I finished pouring it, I hella knocked the whole glass over. Party foul without the party. Damn son. The owner was right there watching the whole thing happening and he helped us clean up the whole mess, and even replaced my beer on the house. Thanks so much for helping out with that. That was my first time knocking over a drink since I was a little kid, and it had to be a Chang. Disappointed in myself If you've been keeping track, you'll notice this place has both the best decor and the best customer service of any Thai place I've ever been to. Does it match up with the food as well? No. That doesn't mean the food here is bad. I actually enjoyed my meal, and there were parts of the meal that had really solid flavor. Like, the minty sauce that comes with the Green Chicken Curry w/ Fried Rice is amazing. I also think it was a Deep Fried Taro root that was one of their appetizers, and it had that really grainy texture to it that I usually hate in foods, but I loved it here. That being said, the dish I actually ordered for myself was the Panang Curry. It was okay. A bit too rich in sweetness and flavor for me. Another thing I didn't really like was that I had to order a separate order of rice for myself. I don't really care cause most Thai places do this anyways with their curry orders, but the portion of rice they give is a little on the small side. Had to ration it a little. Probably will come to this restaurant again in the future. It's nice having another option for Thai food in the general vicinity of the college :)

Horrible, RUDE servers! Each time I have been there, upon entering the restaurant, the servers just point to a table for you to sit at. Also, each time I have been there they are sitting in view of other customers eating food prepared by the kitchen. Today I observed one of the girls get up from the table and scratch her head. She then proceeded to take an order while she was still chewing her food and then she served another customer his food. GROSS! If I'm not mistaken there are health codes against that. I also saw the same server seat customers at dirty tables (twice), remove the dirty plates, but then never wipe down the tables. Today I got a moldy lemon in my ice tea. I showed the server and she just snatched it out of my hand with not apology. The bathroom is terrible, too. Scuff marks and nastiness all over the walls. These people are not welcoming at all. They are clearly all about $. I will not be back!

Been going here since they opened. Best Thai in CV, hands down. It's in a kinda crummy location, despite being on the boulevard (there's very little parking), but if you can't find parking, I recommend take-out. They are very sweet here, and the food is great. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but not always. I strongly recommend the pumpkin red curry - super delicious - and the pad kee mao ("drunken noodles"). Some of the best Thai food I've had anywhere. I forgot: their fried bananas and coconut-pineapple ice cream dessert is divine; it's not like it's something you can't make yourself, but it's so good! If you're like me and you like your food speecy-spicy and not just "oh, my tongue tingles a tiny bit," then be sure to ask for your food "Thai spicy." If you just ask for it spicy, it's not hot enough to make you sweat and cry, which is the best way to enjoy it. :)

The food is good, but the service needs to improve. The last two times we went there we waited 10 minutes and hadn't even been acknowledged. No eye contact....we were invisible!

Top Thai is really awesome! This is the best all around Thai restaurant in the area. Their prices are very reasonable and they deliver! I'm glad to see them succeeding and their remodel looks great! They used to get a little crowded, but with the added seating, it seems like we never wait more than a few minutes on busy nights. My friends and/or family and I eat hear or get delivery almost twice a month and we have yet to be disappointed in a dish. I recently tried their fresh rolls....yum. Their appetizers, noodles, BBQ, and curries are all great. I really like their pumpkin curry. We never forget to order their Thai ice tea, too. It's so nice to have the brown rice option as well. I love their Tom Yum soup. Good anytime, but soooo good on a cold night or when I have a cold. They always spice their dishes just right, but have available options for different tastes. The service is very friendly and their delivery has always been quick, even for some large orders we've had. Whether you go for the basics like pad thai and peanut satay or you venture out into the menu, you will not regret it!

This is my favorite local Tai place. I typically go here for lunch because the dinner menu is rather expensive. I love the yellow and green curry chicken as well as the pineapple rice. I also recommend the fried bananas that are served with a drizzle of honey and your choice of ice cream. (I always get the coconut! ) The lunch special is $6.99 Monday -Saturday, and it includes your choice of beverage : tai iced tea, tea, or soda. Side: soup or salad depending on the day. Lastly, the entree: almost anything on the menu, and its dinner portions. The food is great and so is the service.

Dont buy their Seafood Casserole. You will get 1 piece of Shrimp, 1 piece of Scallop, 2 Squids, 2 slices of fish, onions, carrots. The meal is full of soya sauce. All for $8.99. What a rip-off!!

High Five Yelp-ers! I am now a fan of Top Thai in castro valley. This place wins. Great lunch specials, Thai iced coffee/tea included with lunch for well under ten dollars a person. The staff is wonderful and helpful in suggesting new dishes to try. Indulge in the fried banana dessert served with honey! Or try the Green Curry Fried Rice. The portions are not large like some other thai places, but they are always fresh and yummy. Plus, its healthier that way too! They even offer brown rice and add tofu to dishes at your request. Healthy and delicious!

Hands down, BEST Thai food I've ever had. I ordered the pumpkin curry and a side of the basil eggplant. The flavors were like melt-in-your-mouth good with a side of "hoh my gawwwd." The place is clean, well decorated and made me feel like i was in Thailand. needless to say, if you get done early with your meal and your eyes start to wander about, there is plenty of affordable eye candy to peruse and possibly purchase. Things ranging from small trinkets to earrings for your little one, will leave you with your pocketbooks a plenty. The service is humble and honest. Our server made it a point to make sure the flavors were in tact and that we were ok but not in an annoying way. The trickling of scattered lights in the front window are welcoming. Nobody can Top Thai like "Top Thai."

I haven't been here in a while, but from what I remember, the food was decent. The curry isn't spicy, but it has a good creamy flavor. My favorite part is the Pineapple Fried Rice-- it has a lot of ingredients and was seasoned well. The best part about this place, is the small cozy feel of a family business and the service. I called ahead once to have my friend's birthday dinner there, and they did a complimentary fruit sculpture for me, which was absolutely beautiful. This was a couple years ago, and I'm sure it's not a common practice for them, but I was still impressed nonetheless.

Ordered the Tom Yum soup and Thai Mango Curry. We could not taste the sour flavor in the soup, it was just not there. The shrimp in the curry had a spoiled taste and the squid was overcooked. I remember the food was decent before...

Was visiting from Seattle & decided to try Top Thai per the Yelp reviews. I had the Pad See Yew with chicken & a Thai Iced tea. They didn't ask how spicy I wanted my dish, so I asked for the spice tray to spice it up. Loved the Thai Iced tea! Oh & the chicken seemed fine in the dish even though other reviewers complained. I did like that the service was attentive & the decor was nice. I visit this area often so I would probably visit again, maybe try another dish.

This place is simply amazing, I been coming here ever sense in opened, they have the best Thai food, I always used to get their tom yum cause its the best whether it be chicken or shrimp, but lately I been trying everything on the menu, their garlic beef is the best and I started to try some of their curry dishes they are really good no matter which one you get just remember to order a side or steamed rice on the side cause they are really saucy, but when you put it on top of the rice it is amazing, I love this place and will keep coming back for years, definitely worth a try.

Top Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Bay Area. The owner is an amazing guy who you can tell cares about his customers. Their food is really good and have a very diverse menu. It's right on Castro Valley Boulevard next to "The Burrito Shop" and there is very limited parking. Once you're inside there is a very soothing ambiance that circulates throughout the 2-room restaurant. It's decor is mostly original things from Thailand, there's even little nick-knacks that you can buy exclusively from Thailand. This is a very good Thai place and very well worth it.

As a recent transplant from San Francisco, I was (am) very dubious of the Castro Valley food offerings. I'm a veggie and love Thai, so I took the trusted word of Yelp and went to Top Thai. SO GOOD! We walked in and the ambiance and the smells were just wonderful and you knew you in for a treat! I am working my way through the vegetarian offerings...mmm Basil Tofu and fluffy jasmine rice! and my husband has tried many of the curries and soups. Even my extremely picky 5 year old daughter asks for the chicken satay and she eats it all- and that, in my book, is worth the 5th star alone!

GREAT FOOD! and great service as well, i think the waitress and a man im assuming was the manage checked on us many times during our meal. The chicken skewers were delicious! I personally ordered the Pad Se Eww (spelling?) which is my favorite Thai dish, but I always order the wrong things at other places. Top Thai has a good description of the dish which is helpful for those of us who are still learning what to order. My mom ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp, and our aunt ordered a cup of soup with coconut milk. The size for the cup was much bigger than most places would serve and I noticed that the rice servings were quite heaping! our dishes were big too, PLENTY of food to drool over! I also noticed how another waitress was happy to accomodate a little boy who couldn't eat peanuts at another table. very good service right there! The decor is bright and colorful and they seem to get pretty busy. the waitresses were cheery and prompt and, as mentioned earlier, the menu was easy to navigate. The table next to us ordered some yummy looking ice cream dish which, like everything else, looked like a nice big size. and they finished it all so it must have been delicious! Under $35 for 2 plates of the chicken skewers, cup of soup, pad se eww, pad thai, and a soda. not bad! and the tip was well deserved. oh, and the pretty way they cut carrots into flowers was pretty cool too.

I ordered the papaya salad spicey, duck curry and noodles. The Papaya Salad was super HOT. The duck curry was ok and the noodles wasn't very good. I prefer Thai Garden in Hayward.

Good food and pretty atmosphere. The couple running the restaurant is very nice and help to create a welcoming atmosphere. The decor inside creates a fun, authentic Thai atmosphere as well. The service can be a little slow, but I think the food is worth it. Everything always tastes super fresh and full of flavor. Suggestion: get the fried bananas with honey for dessert!

  • Chris C.

Impressed by the expanded space beautifully decorated nice organic feel and super comfortable seating. Food good as always and service on point. The seafood combination fried rice is great. Love the Beer Chang in the big bottles -- a beer which has stages of flavor from the crisp cold first sip to the final luke-warm syrupy last gulp -- deserves a man-sized authentic Thai bottle. Also Thai arts and crafts for sale at a reasonable price -- we have some ornamental wooden butterflies here at home which really brighten up the place. As to parking complaints: if you can't walk 50 feet then maybe you need to eat at home.

  • Nene R.

Went to check out the new space. Nice! I enjoy that there are now booths and you are not sitting so close to the neighboring tables. Was a bit chaotic --which door to go in? Where is the greeter to tell you where to go. Nothing that a little time won't straighten out. Was only there for lunch: somehow the portions have shrunk...not a bad thing (rather that then a price increase) but items look lost on the large plate. Staff is nice and it appears that they all do everything so, if you want your bill make sure you get someones eye (apparently everyone else thought someone else had given me mine). Still a solid go to place for Thai in Castro Valley.

SO good. Ordered take out. I was surprised they didn't ask for spice (from 1 to 5 or 10) like most Thai restaurants seem to. Didn't matter -- everything was spiced perfectly for us and we were totally impressed! Tom Kha was so delicious and absolutely perfect. Pad Thai with Shrimp was typical but tasty. Phuket seafood was very yummy and had some interesting root ingredient we couldn't figure out. The Garlic Black Pepper beef was very good. Green curry with pork was AMAZING. It was spicier than the other dishes--just the way I like it. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of five because our appetizer of Mun Tod was supposed to be deep fried sweet potato in coconut batter served with plum sauce and ground peanuts, but we ended up with deep fried white potatoes and no plum sauce. So that was a little disappointing. Spent $66 for 4 people (1 soup, 1 app, 4 entrees).

  • Aimee M.

I love coming here for lunch, I generally get the panang curry and it's yummy! The reason I gave 3 stars, however, is that the veggies in the curry are sometimes just past their peak freshness and I just do not like their soups. Aside from those two things, I've got no complaints.

  • Gino R.

Fresh rolls with mint and shrimp, Thai BBQ chicken, and Top Thai Greens are our favourite dishes. The Pad Thai is also outstanding! revised on 2011-12-29: Small kitchen which generally results in slow output regardless if you dine in or take away. Order early and prepare yourself for a wait if you go in the evening or weekends.

Came here on sunday with a group of SIX. Plate we ordered: Curry puffs- Fill with ?Pumpkin?, no meat, taste sweet and curry-ist. Red Pumpkin Curry- I love it, but i alway like Pumpkin curry anywhere Panage Curry with beef- too sweet but it's ok Green curry fried rice- it's a little wet for fried rice, but it tastes good Pad Thai- didn't try it but my friend said it was the same everywhere else A vegetable with chicken with clear noodles- my friend ordered that cuz she was sick, but the broth tasted like celery soup, too much celery... Over all, not a 4 stars where people will be craving to come back, but not a bad restaurant where i refuse to come back either, causel dinning, no problem

This place serves pretty authentic Thai food. The food here is delicious and just hit the right spot when you are craving for Thai food. The only draw back, there is a waitress that just simply mean and rude to everyone but in the city of Castro Valley for the food quality, one simply just turn the other way :) The only dish I have complained is the Pad Thai. They just cook it more watery and the norm.

    (4)
  • Allie H.

We usually have our orders delivered (delivery is free in CV). The portion sizes have gone down A LOT. Especially the bbq beef. The pad thai is very good but not as good as Thai Garden in Hayward. It's probably the best thai place in CV, but not in the East Bay Area.

This place is epic, they are so friendly and helpful. It's hard finding places like this one that have such exceptional customer service skills. Their food is the best Thai food I've had since moving out here. This is my new Thai restaurant!

I have been here several times and I keep coming back for a reason. First off, this place has a really nice ambiance. Upon walking in you get the vibe of a tropical, cozy place. Even some of the 2 person booth seating has pillows. The place is very clean and they take care of it really well. There isn't typically a wait here and the service is usually pretty good. I will admit though that sometimes the food takes a while to come out. This place is a pretty standard Thai restaurant. With the standard curries, pad se ew, tom yum, etc. Even though, their food is good. It's quality ingredients with great flavor. I usually order the pad Thai with chicken here. It's pretty good, but on the downside I always have to ask for extra egg because they hardly put any and even with the extra egg there's hardly any. It's not like eggs are expensive!! They also have pretty good Thai teas here and they serve it in cute mason jars. I also really enjoy their Tom yum and Tom ka. They have the perfect amount of spice in them. All in all, good restaurant with inexpensive prices. I'll keep coming back here.

I always hate writing less than stellar reviews, but one must be honest... Bland. Tried the red curry, yellow curry, green veggies, and papaya salad. All completely lacked the richness and complexity of good Thai food. The meal was actually somewhat boring. I had to salt my plate. Im new to Castro Valley, but sadly will not return.

  • Carly B.

There's better out there. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I got the red curry with chicken. I was surprised when it didn't come with rice, so ordering rice on top of that made the dish $10.50. If I had of walked in there and saw that red curry with rice was $10.50, I would have walked out. That price would have been fine if the portions were large, but everyone at our table was still hungry after eating. I also love ordering red curry when getting Thai food because it's spicy and flavorful - the curry here was barely spicy and didn't have much flavor. Huge disappointment.

If I could rate 0, I would! I came in with my ole lady and we sat down at the bench waiting for over 8 minutes and 32 seconds and no one came to seat us. The waiter also saw us come in and sit down but continued to take multiple orders and still nothing to do with us. It was far from being close to busy. There was an open table in the first room, and the next room was 1 table from empty. We just got up and left.

I like the decor. Been here a couple times now. Lunch deals are worth it. Might come with Thai tea. I like the curry and portion size is worth it. Parking lot may fill up fast but there is residential parking around.

Visited once again, but this time for lunch! My goodness, everything on their menu is $8 - what a total steal! Lunch comes with a salad and drink! I got Thai Iced tea and theirs was SO good and complimentary! Heck yes. They're Pad Thai is average, but their green curry chicken is pretty good. Great service. And great food! I'll continue returning here.

    1. CURRY. Red curry was dimensional and full of colorful vegetables. However, their green curry is actually much more flavorful and amazing. Pumpkin curry is also up there, and includes a healthy portion of pumpkin. Takeout note: The red curry was actually smaller than the portion in the restaurant, but the pumpkin curry came in a much larger takeout container. 2. SATAY. Chicken satay was really tender and I actually really enjoyed the tangy vinegary cucumbers that came with it -- super refreshing. I think it actually took effort for me to let my husband have the last cucumber. Beef satay is good as well, but strangely not as tender as the chicken. Takeout note: you won't get any many of the cucumbers which makes me double sad. :( :( 3. NOODLES. The pad thai was of the saucy variety - which I like because it doesn't get as tangled. There's probably about 4-5 prawns included. Takeout note: the portion is way larger than in the restaurant, but doesn't include bean sprouts. 4. FRIED RICE. The chicken fried rice had good flavor but there are large pieces of chicken in it, and too big of slices of onion. I found it kind of disruptive. Also, they use cherry tomatoes... kind of unacceptable in my opinion. 5. SOUP. Tom Kha soup was rich, hot, and hit the spot. I make this at home from time to time, so I'm a little spoiled with what I put it in. There's only chicken and mushrooms in this one. A bowl is actually enough for 4 servings if you're ordering other dishes. The service has been consistently efficient and friendly. No problems there. I'm a huge fan of hot thai tea, and they're relatively good about refilling my cup. The inside of the restaurant is really comfortable, cozy, cute and great for a casual, intimate date.

I've been here multiple times within the last couple of years and unfortunately, the quality of the food went down :( I always get the spicy basil fried rice or the green curry fried rice and it's been disappointments. The rice is dry and the veggies are in gigantic pieces (and not fully cooked). The food lacks flavor and thus the price keeps going up every time I order. Once, I ordered the vegetarian green curry (over the phone) and when I picked up, I was charged over $10 for a teeny tiny container of curry sauce. Makes sense? I think not. I was too hungry to complain and did not want to wait anymore. I must say, the curry is delicious though! Very flavorful and the spice is just enough. Lately, I noticed their parking lot is literally gone! Instead of the 4-5 parking spots, they rearranged the lot into two random handicapped spots...ummm ok..and the street is full as always (since it's in the residential area too) The servers are friendly so one star for them!

  • Willie S.

Was going to order the Panang curry but the rice costs extra. Coming from out of state, that surprised me a little. Got the pad Thai instead along with Thai tea. Pad Thai didn't have any spices at all, which concerned me, but still tasted good. Overall, I'd give it 3 stars since I've had better. Edit: they have a tray for spices but I had to ask. I'll be generous and give a 4.

My husband and I recently moved to CV from SF and we were on the hunt for a good Thai restaurant that rivaled those on Clement Street. We found Top Thai on Yelp and decided to try it on a Saturday night. We arrived around 8 and about half of the tables were occupied. Our appetizer order was taken promptly and arrived quickly. Crispy Spring Rolls and Papaya Salad were good. The two problems we encountered: the pumpkin inside my pumpkin curry was rock hard and there was lettuce in the Pad Se Ew. I sent back my pumpkin curry to be cooked some more but it came back still rock hard and inedible. Service was friendly and prompt, but I think next time, we'll try the other Thai restaurant across the street. P.S. I took the leftovers home, cranked up my stove for 10 minutes and then the pumpkin was finally edible.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Customer service, my husband and I where seated and I asked to order a drink, the waitress roled her eyes at me and said hold on- in annoyance, then asked her coworker to take our order, after they looked at eachother like they where talking about me IN A NEGITIVE way, very immature. I loved this place in the past, but this waitress rubbed me the wrong way. She shouldn't be in the food industry if she does not like taking orders- literally! I am very polite to my waitors/waitresses, I tip very well. This place will not be receiving a tip nor will I ever come here again.

  • Alexandria C.

YES. They actually serve vegetarian dishes *and* know what a vegetarian typically will/won't eat, like fish sauce, which most Thai places use and you never know until you're locked in your bathroom. I love their tofu cashew queen and their spring rolls. Their Thai iced tea is amazing. Once, ONCE, I got a wrong order, but it was right before closing and I ordered while using my cell in a shitty service area, so who knows who was at fault.

Tried out Top Thai for lunch with some friends after a hike at Lake Chabot. It's in a strip mall across from Rite Aid in Castro Valley. They have lunch specials Mon-Sat 11am-3pm which is nice and we all ordered from that menu. They also have their regular menu too. You get FREE salad & Choice of Drink - even Thai Iced Tea w/ Lunch Special! I liked my Thai iced tea - very refreshing Salad was heavy on the dressing, liked it fine - it was just iceberg lettuce, some shredded carrots & dressing. D. got Seafood Clay Pot $8.99 - they only gave a little bit of seafood & lots of rice. I almost got this dish, glad I didn't. I. got Green Curry Fried Rice in Chicken $7.99 - she liked it, though she said it was greasy. I got Green curry fried rice in Pork $7.99 - I liked it ok, maybe 5-6 big chunks of grilled pork meat, green curry fried rice didn't have sauce & not enough heat for me. Had egg, onions, green beans. You can charge the meal, we paid cash. Some tamarind candy with the bill.

We found this restaurant to have bad service. Not once did they refill our water or check on us. They need to understand how running a business works. Everyone is to be treated the same. This restaurant just didn't seem to care for some of their patrons. If you lack in customer service, please at least have good food. No good food here. My Thai tea was full of ice so I felt like I was barely getting any tea. The food was not impressive at all. I have had better Thai food in a mall. The chicken and vegetables in my pad sa ew was not fresh. Laab was not good at all. Please do yourself a favor and try another Thai place. Thumbs down to this place for sure.

Come here for the lunch specials. For under $10 you get a salad, lunch and a drink. They have a variety of lunch menu items here too. I can honestly say I've been here at least 3 times and have ordered something different every time. And each time my tummy left satisfied. No, it's not the best Thai I've had, but you can't beat this lunch special! Waitresses are friendly and you can easily get in and out of there during a 1 hr lunch.

I live close by and this has been my go-to Thai place if I'm craving thai, but recently I moved on... to the place across from them lol When I've dined-in the service was fine. No issues from what I can remember and there hasn't been issues with any take out. The phone line will probably be busy and you'll have to order in person which sucks if you're trying to save some time. Parking is limited, so just park on the residential street. I always get the pad thai but since I've found better I had to make the break lol. From the top of my head.. I've also tried the pin. fried rice (barely any pineapple :\), pad kee mao (bland!), curries, & bbq chicken. BBQ was good but small portions, same with the curries. It's a cute little "fine dining" thai place but there's better in terms of portions, prices and taste. Their delivery service is odd imo. I never asked before so I called about it. I live closer (being borderline hayward/castro valley) than other castro valley residents and they wouldnt deliver. Oh well.

Top Thai is, without a question, my favorite Thai restaurant that I've ever been to. For the appetizer, I usually get the Thai spring rolls which are similar to traditional egg rolls. They're always hot to the touch whenever they come to the table, so I like that it's fresh and right off the frier. My usual entree is the chicken Pad Thai. They give huge portions when you dine in, so I'm always left feeling super full. Their noodles aren't too greasy and it's a perfect combination of noodles, chicken, and vegetables. It's the best Pad Thai I've ever had. Of course, mango and sticky rice is a must for dessert when eating Thai food. The rice is made extremely well--it's not too sweet and it oddly has a sort of savory taste to it. The mangoes are always sweet and delicious. It's the perfect dessert. One thing is that the service isn't always friendly. Some days I'll go in and have a great waitress who is really kind. Most days, I feel like I have a waiter or waitress that has a bit of an attitude and doesn't want to serve my table. The great food, though, outweighs any negative experience. It's an affordable price for Thai food and it lives up to its name.

From the exterior the restaurant looks tiny but it's quite large inside. We sat on a comfy booth and soon families started to pour in. This place seemed very popular with the locals. The service was FAST but not as friendly as other Thai restaurants I've been to. ! It was awesome because I was starvingggg! We ordered the Spicy Basil Fried Rice and Thai Fried Chicken. I compared the Basil Fried Rice with the one I've had in Berkeley multiple times and this wasn't even a contender. It was a lot saltier because of the soy sauce they already put in and it wasn't one bit spicy nor did our server ask how spicy we wanted it. The TFC was alright. The chicken was a beautiful golden brown while the rice was pretty bland. All in all I gave it a 3 star because of the small portions, saltiness of the food, blandness of the other and for not being thanked for coming in. With so many other choices to eat, the very least they can do is thank their patrons for thejr business.

Q: How many words can you use to describe this place? A: I can do it with 2 words. Slow. Bland. Service was on snail mail pace. After my 2 entrées, it took another 10 mins for my mixed veggie to come out. I do however praise them for not serving alcohol to someone who can't show ID (i.e. my bf). But then again, a table of at least 6 sheriffs came to dine after we sat down, so they are not messing with that. Food, like I said above was totally bland. The minute I had a spoonful of the meat trio fried rice, I was like "Umm, where's the seasoning?!" The basil thai beef was nothing but a knock off version. Things were cooked too long to where it made the beef tough and the veggies too soft. Not a fan. Actually I'm not even going to mention what else we had cuz it's really not worth it. Why the 2 stars instead of one? I'm nice. They didn't piss me off but they clearly tended to their to-go order customers more than they are with the dine-in folks. Verdict: I'll pass.

We used to go here regularly but recently we ordered take out and it was utterly tasteless. That has never been the case when we have dined in. We will give Top Thai another chance and maybe a better review.

Called to place an order and was told please wait one minute. 6 minutes go by, followed then by the phone being hung up. Alright figured that it must have been a mistake. Call again and was told to hold, left me on hold for 8 minutes this time and then was disconnected. Called a third time to complain and was just told sorry. I go to Top Thai at least 2-3 times a month and usually it's been great but after being treated like this I will never go back.

I'm absolutely gobsmacked that this place has so many good reviews! I should have sorted by one star reviews first. In case the owner blames me as he has the other reviewers who gave bad reviews, my rating took into account that it was take-out, so in fairness, the temperature of the dishes and lack of crispiness of the fried dishes was not considered. Also, I have eaten at least a dozen other Thai restaurants in the greater Bay Area and have been to Thailand. SERVICE- no stars for total lack of simple courtesy I ordered take-out on a Wednesday night and was told it would take 75 minutes. I thought that was a bit long (we ordered at around 7:20 PM) even for a large order (7 dishes), so I said "75 minutes? So about 8:30...?" but the woman hung up. At 8:37, she called and said "This is Top Thai. Your food ready for a long time now!" and as I said "We're coming, we thought you said 75 minutes...", but she had already hung up. THE FOOD: one star for 2 good dishes (and 5 awful ones) Everything here is mild enough for an infant - absolutely no heat, and they don't ask - or give you the chance to request - spicier stuff. Two good dishes (in case you end up here by mistake): * Mun Tod was very good, although we got no plum sauce, only their watery overly sweet and sour sauce * Red Pumpkin Curry - Very good but mostly because I crave pumpkin. The curry has no heat, but it did have good flavor. I might go back just for this dish, but I live just two blocks away - This is not a ringing endorsement to come here. The rest was awful: - Crispy tofu: I love tofu, but this was strangely mealy like it was old - Satay(Beef): Grilled shoe leather with horribly bland sauce - Green Papaya Salad: - REALLY bad. A huge mound of shredded green papaya with just two green beans, and a piece of unripe tomato, and a watery, heavily acidic citrus-like dressing - Pad Thai: THE WORST PAD THAI I HAVE EVER HAD. Way too much tamarind with not even a hint of garlic rendered this dish a sweet and sour mess. - Pad See Ew: "Ew" is spot on - Bland, bland, bland. No depth of flavor at all, just noodles doused in soy sauce with overcooked broccoli florets. You've been warned - Read the rest of the one star ratings if you still want to go here.

Honestly it wasn't tasted good...I ordered some spring roll and red curry and they tasted just "okay" ~i mean it in a politly way....but their service just So damn!!!!!!

I ordered pumpkin curry with tofu and I didn't find it to be anything special. A lot of people compare this place to Pad Thai across the street but I thought other than the updated decor at Top Thai, it was more or less the same except I paid almost twice as much for lunch at Top Thai. I did have an issue with the service. They took a very long time to take orders and were rude about refilling waters to the point were they splashed and spilled because they were in such a rush to not be doing the task. The food is fine but I felt overpriced and with the rude staff I don't think I will be returning.

Really good Thai for the area. Nice flavors. Helpful service and very nice. Although I would have given 5 stars if they would have been faster and a bit more responsive.

The service here is horrible!!!! They are so rude we didn't even get a proper "hi how are you" greeting when the server came to the table. But I will say that the short lady with the bob hair cut, who's usually always there is really sweet. We started with a shrimp appetizer and the shrimp was under cooked so we had to send it back, not to mention we were starving when we got there and had to wait 10 minutes for them to open. So then our main course comes out, I ordered the green curry chicken and it was completely cold so I had to sent that back as well. Overall it was a horrible dining experience and I will never eat there again! PS now that I'm in the car writing this review my friend tells me she saw the waitress fix the shrimp on our plate as she was bringing it out the second time. If I would of seen that I would of walked right out!

This has been a regular spot for us. Service is always outstanding and the food consistently good! Pineapple Fried Rice, Shrimp Pad Thai, Green Curry, Peanut Curry, Basil Chicken everything is delicious!

Honestly my favorite restaurant in the bay area. The Pad see ew and claypot chicken are both the best... I say that because ive had the same thing from a bunch of other thai spots around and none of them have as good or as much flavor as top thai's does. The people are always super nice and make suggestions on whats good. Its priced very reasonably as well. I cant say enough about it, just try it, i promise its legit.

Just discovered Top Thai today. Wow, I definitely have a new favorite restaurant! This little hole-in-the-wall family restaurant has some of the best Thai food I have ever had. I am so glad it is close to home! I have to start with the fresh shrimp spring rolls. They are honestly the best spring rolls I have ever had. They are served with a sweet peanut sauce that is amazing! My husband doesn't typically care for spring rolls, but he loved these! The yellow curry is delicious. Fresh vegetables, delicious coconut flavor, and a little kick. Perfect. The pineapple fried rice has the perfect amount of sweetness. You can never go wrong with pad thai, and theirs was no exception. My son loved the chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce. We ordered 5 plates (lunch menu) and 2 Thai iced teas for a total of $46.00 without tip. All in all, prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. I found my new go-to for Thai food!

This place is always a treat to go to. The food is wonderful, the prices reasonable, and the staff takes good care of you. On top of that, they know when you are a loyal customer and are very personable with you. I would say this is the number one spot in Castro valley.

this is my favorite place for thai take-out in CV! we're vegetarians and have sampled all of the thai places in the area and top thai beats em all for quality, freshness, and generosity with vegetables. we're never had a bad thai iced tea from them either, which tends to be one of the core benchmarks for the thai places we try. our staples here are the pad see ew, basil eggplant, tom yum soup, and any of the red curries. our family took my grandfather here for his 80th birthday, and they brought out the most delicious fried banana and pineapple-coconut ice cream dessert - gratis! you should definitely order it when you dine-in. thanks top thai for being so consistently wonderful over the years! one suggestion, if you guys had gluten satay skewers (veg), i would jump for joy. we always love places with more vegetarian "meat" options than just tofu.

I only come here during the lunch specials (11-3pm Monday-Saturdays). They raised the prices since I last been here. Lunch Entrees range from $7.50 to $9 and they come with a salad and a drink! I feel like the waitresses are always changing.some of them are always smiling and greeting you. But the others show no emotion to you. I just wished they have Mango Fried Rice )=

After canceling my order due to it taking to long this place actually drove out to my house and gave me a gift card for next time I order food!!!! Omg that was so sweet I yelled and cussed them all out and yet they still tried to make it better for me!!! Thank you you guys! I will definitely be giving you guys a try again!

Good food. Bad service. I like to order to go to avoid the snarky women that work here. They've actually charged me extra to fill my ice tea cup because I asked for no ice...

  • Denise L.

Honestly, I always get this place and Pad Thai confused. So, when ordering I accidentally ordered from here. Big mistake. Def. not my fav place to order from. Lets start with my pad thai. The noodles were pretty good but the beef that was made with the pad thai was literally beef jerky. It was somewhat dried and burnt. And..why was there this unknown meat in there?! I think it was bacon? Not sure. Def. kinda grossed me out. The curry to me, I've def. experienced better. It was just mostly spicy. Meh....with a few piece of chicken and overly large cut veggies. Just...ya no. Lastly, what really made me want to review and complain about this was the cup holder. I ordered two thai ice tea (cause I thought I was ordering from Pad Thai and that usually includes with the meal, thanks for telling me it wasn't when I asked!) and...seriously!? CUTTING CUP HOLDERS IN HALF? How does that help me when I'm driving? I stupidly put it on the floor of my car and guess what? One turn and plop! it falls over. Making my whole mat wet with thai tea. Thank goodness I can drive with one hand or I'd be screwed. Are you REALLY that cheap that you can't give a customer the full car cup holders with four? Isn't that the point of cup holders? Even WITH two drinks so you can put it in the opposite sides so it won't fall over? My goodness! How cheap can you get?! Overly priced for 20 dollars for my whole meal (I just think it's overpriced compared to the other Thai place in CV.) I'm in no means a cheapo but seriously, I hate coming here and due to my stupidity, I ordered from the wrong place. Tip for Top Thai...GIVE THE CUSTOMER THE FULL CUP HOLDER! Goodness!

I was in the Mood for Thai so I hit my Yelp Bookmarks and Top Thai Popped up. I grabbed my Urban Cowboy Whip and rolled to Castro Valley. I was able to park right in front. I rolled in and was greeted and seated and presented a Menu. I perused the Menu and ordered a Cup of Tom Yum Soup, Beef Satay, Shrimp Egg rolls and Fried Prawns. While I was waiting for my food . I noticed that the Decor is very traditional Thai which was a nice touch. My food all came together. I started with the Tom Yum soup which was tasty and spicy. The Beef Satay was Tender and Flavorful. The Shrimp Egg rolls and the Fried Prawns were outstanding. I would eat at Top Thai again. I paid by Discover Card and rolled out.

I was hopeful but alas definitely no good thai in CV. Honey BBQ is cheap boneless skinless chicken. Worst thai food ever. Dull flavorless, tasted like an old shoe Chicken. Don't waste money here, should be ashamed to call yourself thai food. A frozen mess, no fresh food here. Ordered shrimp pad thai, was charged for shrimp pad thai got chicken pad thai that was Ehhh!'

This place never ceases to amaze me! Not only do they offer delicious affordable thai food but they deliver! After a very long week and a nice long hard run with my hubby, the last thing we wanted to do was get dressed and drive anywhere. I remembered seeing that Top Thai delivered so I called it in and was told it would take 50 minutes, it got to my house in 29 minutes piping hot and delicious!

Best Thai food in Castro Valley. They offer free delivery to Castro Valley Residents! How awesome for us overworked super tired working mommies and daddies! We eat here at least twice a month. Food arrives hot and within the promised time frame. Our typical order usually includes: Beef Pad See Ew, Chicken Tom Yum, Chicken Pad Thai, and Chicken Yellow Curry with coconut rice. I have them on my speed dial. Eek!

Service was friendly and prompt, but the food was only average. I had the Cashew Queen dish with tofu and rice and I ate it all as I was quite hungry. The restaurant could be cleaner and there are very few parking places.

Always a good meal in a nice atmosphere. Service is ok, a little too hands off which means you may need to wait for refills on drinks and the check sometimes. The Tom Ka is awesome. Spicy basil fried rice is da bomb. Seafood clay pot, seafood green curry both great. Fried banana is good. The panang doesn't measure up to some other places in the area but that's ok, I can go elsewhere for that. I would drive a long way to get here for the spicy basil fried rice alone :)

Delivery horrible, I call ask for delivery they said OK only in Casto valley it took 25 mins to give them my address. I was on hold and can hear all there conversations. Finally they said they can't deliver to my house? They delivered before so went across the street way better food yiu just lost 70 bucks and future business.

The quest for a decent restaurant in Castro Valley continues. We had takeout, which in retrospect probably wasn't the best idea. Honestly, we did it twice, because I'm an idiot and can't remember the difference between Top Thai and Pad Thai Cuisine (basically across the street). To save you clicking through, theirs was no better, but for a different reason. Two staple orders: Pad See Ew, chicken, and green curry, chicken. Pretty simple, standard. The pad see ew was... ewww. it tasted like it had been cooked in barbecue sauce. Too much, too sweet. The green curry was actually delicious. I'd recommend this to anybody. Maybe hitting .500 is ok in baseball (ok, it's pretty great), but when your wife has a poor-tasting meal and yours is ok -- well, you know how it goes. Given our other experience at "that other place across the street", we'll probably be back. Just won't order the pad see ew again.

I visit Castro Valley every 2 week to see my client. This is the best to place to have lunch during my gap in Castro Valley. Green curry, pad Thai and fresh rolls are my favorites. I usually order Thai iced coffee and stay there for a while to chill. They offer free wifi. It's really helpful for me to finish some works and checking email.

I feel like this place has gone downhill. The servers give crap service & the food isn't very good. It makes me a little sad because it used to be my favorite spot to eat.

I have only ordered one thing when I come here because it is so good; I really enjoy the fried rice with chicken. I have had a couple of issues here, but it hasn't been bad enough for me not to come back. First, the air conditioner broke right before we had lunch. Second, the card machine was having trouble so I had to go get cash. After these two incidents it has been all good. If your looking for some descent food, I recommend this place. The service has been good., but the parking is limited.

I give it 2 only ,over $$, little portion for the price paid for an order of a chicken dish; poor customer service over the phone.

Pad Thai noodles are chewier (more al dente) than most places. Otherwise standard in flavor. Basil eggplant has a slight kick and a strong basil flavor, eggplant is cooked well. Pineapple fried rice is nice and light, mostly fragrant from the onions (it'll be plain if you don't eat the onions, and you'd be missing out) the rice is moist, looks like the typical frozen peas carrots and corn though. Pad see ew is flavorful, sweet. Fresh noodles, good crunch to the broccoli. Yellow curry is ok, way better at Red Chili, chicken is typically dry, fairly bland.

  • Jim W.

Food is always good, but service was bad. 3 people were working and it was not a full house, but it took a long time before they took our order. I am seeing a lot of other yelpers saying the same thing about slow service.

This is a nice restaurant with appealing decor and good food. Service can be hit or miss. They often seem rushed and overworked. Not very attentive in regards to filling water glasses or checking if we need anything. They recently trimmed down their menu, but still have most of our favorites - including the panang curry and pad thai. Thai iced tea is delicious also. The lunch special is a great deal. Would come here more often if service was friendlier and more attentive.

This place is a cute little spot and fairly recently remodeled. Actually, when it was the older spot, the food was a bit better, however the cute ambiance is a nice place to grab a lunch, casual family dinner, or catch up with a friend. I definitely would recommend the lunch special, great value for your dollar. You get a small salad, entrée, and free drink from $7-$10. You really can't beat that since a Thai tea or coffee these days average about $3 alone. I've ordered the Wide noodle with Beef on numerous occasions because I know I like this dish, and the first time I was disappointed, it was dry and the veggies were slightly burnt. I tried one more time and they redeemed themselves. The TFC is a nice go to dish. I think it's like $8. The curries are good too. For the price you can't beat it, but if they were to raise their prices, I probably would not go as often as the food is decent, but not to die for. There's better Thai food out there. However.... They get three stars from me because the service is always consistently great...friendly, quick, and attentive. You can easily do an hour lunch date here no problem. I haven't tried the desserts yet, but if you keep food joints into perspective, and understand their strengths and weaknesses and what they have to offer, then you'll understand why I say pick the right place for the right occasion.....Don't do Ross if you want Gucci....

One of the best thai food places I've been to! I am so happy to have found this place, since I recently moved to the area. Prior to this my go to thai spot changed chefs and everything went down hill from there. The servings here are very big. Their food is so flavorful, once you start you can't stop! The only downside about this place is the service is a little slow and one of the girl who works here doesn't really know how to speak to guests, especially when they are busy. She seems a little on edge and gives customers the finger to wait instead of politely saying please give me one moment. Other than that, you need to give this place a try! The pad Thai portion is actually HUGE! And the pad kee Mao is also very delicious!

  • Vivian K.

We came during lunch and ordered pad thai and spicy basil rice. Both came out good and quickly. Although there were only a few pieces of meat in the rice dish. The biggest problem was that there was no air conditioning and it was a hot day. Made it uncomfortable to eat. Food is good. Building needs air conditioning.

Bad service here! I will never come back again! They are not willing to explains the food I am order since I don't what it gonna taste. Asked for wifi code they told me I have to go the the cashier to get it, why don't just tell me? And they don't allow me use restroom, they said no no no out of service! I did not order white but they brought white rice for wveryBad experience here!!

The saving grace of Castro Valley and terrific Thai cuisine. Our family is picky and primarily vegetarian and Top Thai has become a popular name in our home, We have eaten in the restaurant and have had deliveries each time being greeted with kindness and great food. If you are a resident of Castro Valley or just looking for great food Top Thai is a sure bet.

We were happy to find out this placed offered free delivery with orders over $25, however disappointed when we were quoted 15 mins and it didn't come until 45 minutes later. Furthermore, when we got our food, the Basil Beef had tipped over in his car or something, so we got a plastic bag with sauce all over it and had to pull our container out all drenched. Not to mention there was no liquid left in our actual entree box and the actual entree was dry. If these two things had been handled correctly, we would've been more satisfied. For example, they could quote a longer wait time and come earlier. Or they could have asked to take back the Basil Beef since all the sauce was literally in the plastic bag and it was not a pretty sight.

We started with the veggie egg rolls and thai iced coffee with whipped cream. The iced coffee was too sweet and not strong enough(2 stars). Unfortunately, they forgot to order the egg rolls so it came out with our entrees( BIG No-No). The egg rolls were forgettable. Not flavorful and tiny(2 stars). I wanted to try something different so I got their Thai Omelet. It consisted of ground chicken and veggies in their special sauce stuffed in a egg. Looked like a giant crepe. It was actually very delicious. I loved the abundance of flavors and textures. It was piping hot. You need to eat it with rice to balance the richness(5 stars). Wifey ordered their veggie Pad See Eaw. It came so salty that after a few bites she sent it back. The second time it came out it was bland! Even with the hot sauce, it wasn't really edible(2 stars). The servers there were very good. They were attentive and no complaints there. Overall, a mixed bag. Some items were very good but others disappointed. I would come again but my wife wouldn't.

The exterior will fool you. Very quaint interior similar to one of those small places you see in SF. Very delicious choices. The curries are very flavorful, the beef, poultry, and seafood are fresh.

From experience, it's hard to get good service at Thai restaurants in the area. You'll get decent service here, but they have their bad days. But I still keep on going for their food. Their curry (green, yellow, or red) are excellent. An extra spicy curry from here when you have a cold is on point. Pad Thai is awesome. Shrimp Fresh rolls are delicious. Thai iced tea and coffee are addicting. Tom Yum is a good when u don't feel like eating curry.

Love the chicken pad Thai with a side of peanut sauce. You will be glad you came top it off with a Thai Iced Tea your set for lunch.. Get a few sides of lime sooooooo good. I've had pad Thai many places and this is it right here . Not to he confused with the Thai place across the street this is night and day.

First things first: pricy, good and a long wait for takeout. My girlfriend and I rarely go there to eat in, so it's always takeout for us. If you order the they usually tell you 15-20 minutes, but when you get there they always make you wait another 10-15. The food is great so its not too bad that we had to wait, so after eating there a lot we've not just waited that extra time at home and get there later then they say and so far its worked well for us. Good pricy food, but you gotta wait for it.

My date and I ordered the standard Thai dishes which were the green papaya salad and chicken pad thai. Both were okay, nothing outstanding compared to other restaurants nearby. We decided to be adventurous with the third dish and ordered the jungle curry. The jungle curry came out with cooked vegetables in this light broth with spices floating in it. I thought it was suppose to be curry but not broth but we didn't noticed until 25 min later because we were eating the other items and enjoying our conversation. What the hell, we just dig into it. Let say it was the last thing we left unfinished. One thing I didn't enjoy was when I was eating, I was half way finished and the waitress came over and asked if I'm done? The fork is still my hand! I was like I'm done cause I lost my appetite. Parking is a bit tight so drive around.

Its all in a name. While looking for a place to eat near my meeting, I found top Thai on my yelp app. Two things popped into my head. 1) A "top" Thai restaurant 2) A versatile twink gay bar I was fortunate it was the first of the two. The reviews are a lot of people claiming the food is decent yet service bordering horrible; I cant say I had the same experience. Upon walking in, the place is narrow and homey... with a larger side for I am assuming a dinner rush? I liked it. I love holes in the walls and you typically cant go wrong with Thai. The lunch menu was extensive, which made me happy as most places have your standard currys and noodles. Although I was eye-fking the TFC (Thailand fried chicken), I opted for the Thai roast duck with brown rice. My dining companion got the hot and spicy noodle soup with pork; again, standard. The duck was thinly cut and was served on a large bed of broccoli with bok choy with a side of sauce (tasted like a lighter, saltier BBQ sauce). Of all the duck I've had in my life (and I have had (A LOT) this easily falls in the top 5; Moist, meaty and perfect. The broccoli and bok choy were steamed perfectly with great flavor. I was also told that the soup was "okay" and not the best, which is unfortunate because I really enjoyed mine. all in all, lunch for two with a thai tea was around $20.... very reasonable. As far as the service, they were prompt, attentive and nice. There were about 5 people in the restaurant so maybe they weren't stressed due to a rush, but I really have no complains... easily above average. We were in and out in a timely yet unrushed manner... and FULL. Cheers top Thai for curbing my Thai cravings and not being whatever my imagination stirred up. *shudders*

I think you have to put in perspective... There are a lot of Thai places in the East bay, but as far as Castro Valley is concerned, Top Thai is one of the better places for some grubbage. Fresh, reasonably priced, and good curry, spring rolls, and noodle dishes. You can't go wrong if you are in the mood for some peanut sauce...

Excellent Thai food in east CV. We recently got takeout lunch from Top Thai. It was super deelish. I got the Pad See Ew with tofu which had tons of flavor and those big blocks of fried tofu that are so good in Thai food. My partner got red curry which was also very tasty with lots of crisp veggies. We'll definitely go back for dine-in!

Thai food? Yes please! I'm always down for Thai! I always hear things about Top Thai so lets try this place instead of the usual Pad Thai across the street. "Never leave someone you love for someone you like because eventually they'll leave you too!" True in this case! Food: basil fried rice - expected it to be better from the reviews. Fried chicken wings - crispy with a nice spicy honey glaze. Beef pad see ew - looked good but pretty bland, beef was chewy and cut waaay to big. Beef salad - pretty tasty with a nice kick of lime. BBQ duck - probably a bigger slab of meat than Pad Thai Cuisine, but broccoli was lacking flavor, practically blanched vegetables with duck and a side of dipping sauce. Dessert - which is my favorite part of a meal. Ordered mango sticky rice. Seriously? 4 itty bitty pieces of mango with unequal amount of rice! Boooo! Sweet tooth was not satisfied =[ Drinks: waitress forgot our Thai teas and we had to ask for it. Finally got it half way through our meal. Ambiance: better than I expected. I thought it was a hole in wall place but inside is not bad Service: 50/50. Some waiters were very fast and for others it seemed like some forgot we were there. They even boxed up our dessert because we asked them to box our leftovers. Ummm, we actually planned to eat it there, buddy. Maybe it was a bad choice of food on my part, but still, shouldnt everything you serve be good? Sorry for cheating on you Pad Thai Cuisine =[ Please don't leave me!

Ordered chicken pumpkin curry with white rice and shrimp pad Thai to-go tonight. Generous portions and delicious tasting. My only complaint is that there was only 4 shrimps in the entire dish. Cursory glance into the place showed a wonderful ambience. Diverse crowd present. Parking is tight, mostly street. Overall, a great experience.

To be honest this was the first Thai food restaurant I've ever experienced and it was by far the best. Great service they were so nice and it felt so homey, they have original art around the whole place from Thailand; they sell it too. Don't get me started on the food though. That was great definitely. The vegetarian pad Thai was so good the noodles were sweet and flavorful plus the tofu was great. Having a vegetarian gf is hard so when she likes something that means it's very good! Thumbs up!

This place is alright. Having been in Thailand and having first hand exposure to true and fresh Thai food in Chiang Mai as my first experience with Thai food, I must say I am WAY over-spoiled. However, my lowered rating is really because the food here isn't impressive nor in any way would I say it's anything special. The prices are medium-high for the amounts they served. The service here is good and people are nice, but it doesn't overshadow the "meh" feeling I had in my mouth as I left. :( The curry was probably the best thing we ate but it was also nothing special. I'll probably come back here only out of habit.

I wish I could give this place a better rating because the food was absolutely delicious, however service was terrible. There was only 1 woman for an entire restaurant and she was struggling to keep up. She didn't bring me any utensils to eat so I just grabbed some from another plate, and I had to ask for Chopsticks. She never greeted me or stopped by once to ask me how my meal was, or even greet me when I came in. She said "just sit anywhere" and walked away. There used to be something called Customer service that seems to be missing from many establishments these days. As I was leaving, she said just sign the bill and leave it, it got so busy she said. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my credit card info there as too many people do fraudulent things, but was I going to wait another 10 minutes after an already long work day...hell no.

Don't understand why this place only has three and half stars. I'm pretty picky with my Thai place and have been to many Thai restaurants and I rate this place in my top three. I usually get the chicken satay, chicken fried rice, and the chicken tom kah soup. I have never had any complaints. The lunch and dinner portions are huge and service is always on point! Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.

Their food is always tasty and reasonably priced. Their lunch menu is the next choice. The price includes a salad, main dish, and a drink.

Great tasting Thai food and great service. Flavors were on point. Probably one of my top 2 Thai restaurants in the bay.

I've eaten take out from this place twice before and it was always decent, but this last experience was purely awful. We ordered combination pad thai, yellow curry and fresh rolls-the staples. The pad thai had beef, chicken and pork and all of the meats, especially the beef, were disgusting. Over cooked, dried out, chewy and badly flavored. The noodles themselves were OK after we picked all the meat out. The yellow curry, while flavored well, had undercooked vegetables in it and overcooked chicken. The potatoes were rock hard, as if they just tossed them in raw before serving. The chicken was super dry despite being submerged in curry and stuck to your teeth when you chewed it up. Just gross. The best thing we had were the fresh rolls, and those were fine, but nothing special. Time to find a new Thai place!

This used to be my all time FAVORITE Thai food, but they have gone down hill. I have been disappointed the past few times, especially the last time. Food was mediocre and we literally had to beg to be serviced when we were in need of something. Also, one of the waitresses was extremely rude. Sadly I do not think that I will be returning anymore.

This is a family favorite restaurant! The fresh rolls are vegetarian and to die for....coupled with the peanut sauce, I could eat an order by myself. Highly recommend pumpkin curry. Delicious blending of authentic flavors and genuinely nice, respectful staff.

Don't advertise that you deliver if you don't! The past four times I called (with several days/weeks between each), I was told they can't deliver. They instead asked if I wanted to order for take-out. Sneaky business is sneaky.

Love this place. Awesome food, staff, and prices. I order from here all the time. On the phone they are nice as well as when I walk in they remember me and are so friendly. Their pad Thai is awesome. You gotta try this place.

  • Erin T.

This place is fairly good... The decor is nice and the menu has a good variety. The pumpkin curry is my favorite. I didn't even know i liked pumpkin! I haven't seen it on the menu before and the pumpkin chunks are a nice alternatives to potatoes. It's not spicy though so if you're into a little heat like me, ask for spicy. The Tom yum is good but not unique from any other place... I wish they had used different kinds of mushroom The pad Thai was a bit sweet for my taste and they're noodles are more al dente as someone else noted What got me was the service. I really felt like they were rushing us to leave even though there was plenty of time before closing.

3 stars to 1 All because one of the servers asked the party of two ladies next to us to close their check to make room for the TWO patrons that JUST walked in. Rude / Greedy much? I guess maybe another table of two heard, because they seemed to have left in a hurry. Then the server had the audacity to tell the ladies 'I think you're okay for now.' Honestly there is never any excuse for such terrible customer service, especially considering those two ladies are spending THEIR money at your establishment. They had only finished their dessert for christ sakes AND there were a couple of tables that stayed much longer for dinner. What got me even more upset was that 30mins after we finished our dinner and left, the two ladies were still outside having conversation =( Sorry Top Thai, you were good, but after witnessing bad service like that I would much rather spend my money elsewhere.

  • Tracy T.

I really liked coming here, but they've cut down their menu quite a bit recently. They happened to cut out my favorite dishes but they still have a lot of good stuff, I recommend the yellow curry. Also they still have the best Thai ice tea in town.

  • Jackie W.

I agree with another reviewer. If you don't deliver, don't advertise that you do... "Can you pick up? Delivery man not in today." I've gotten this several times. The food is good quality... but used to be a little better. The original owners sold it several years back and it is not the same. The food is close but the service had gone downhill, unfortunately.

I'm a busy woman, always on the go... so I appreciate restaurants that deliver. Lately I have noticed that the meat has been very overcooked in the dishes, but I also realize that ordering delivery means that the food sits in the hot broths for longer periods of time so it is likely still "cooking" by the time it gets to me. The portions are big, for a Thai restaurant. I regularly order: -Pineapple fried rice: seafood adds no flavor I recommend add meat -Basil fried rice: spicy and flavorful -Chicken Pra Ram: white meat chicken, yum! Lots of spinach :) -Chicken Pad Se Ew: BOMB.COM -Beef pumpkin curry: Pumpkin is always cooked just right! -Papaya salad: Has a strong fish flavor but is large in size and very moist (spicy too) Room for improvement: This restaurant does not accept online orders and the phone line is often busy! Probably the only time in this decade I still hear a busy signal! You also have to remind them, when placing deliver orders, if you are paying with credit card... otherwise they will hang up quickly and expect cash upon arrival. Finally, I wish they would turn down the temp on the stove so my meat isn't as rubbery. Regardless though, the flavors and spice are just right for my palate!

I did not expect a little local Thai restaurant on the side of the street to be so nice. I came here to have dinner with my family and to see why my brother wouldn't stop raving about it. After one bite of their food, it was clear why he liked this place so much! It's delicious! Their food is moderately priced and extremely tasty. Their pad Thai, kee mao, fried rice, vegetable curry, and coconut sticky rice were all super flavorful and the portions were all large and fulfilling. Their Vietnamese iced coffees and Thai iced teas are really good as well. The service is great. Friendly and fast. The atmosphere is really nice. Multicolored walls covered with cute Thai decorations. Top Thai is a great place for a fun, tasty, casual lunch or dinner.

Roast duck salad...bomb! Must get it if you go here! It gets crowded on the weekends and minimal parking in the lot. There is street parking though. The service was great but the food came out a bit slow. Understandable since the place was packed. Fairly priced. I would come back for the duck salad!

I came here with some friends for lunch. Very friendly staff members. FREE Wi-Fi!! My chicken basil was very good. This place looks small from the outside, but inside is a pretty decent size; cute place & nice decorations. They are next door to a burrito shop. Both restaurants share a small parking lot. I will come here again. :)

Unfortunately CV isn't known for it's diverse array of great restaurants, but I'm so glad that Top Thai exists, because it's one place that I can recommend to people. I love love love their pad thai. I find myself consistently craving it once a week. Another dish I love is the basil fried rice. Bottomline, I only stick with these two dishes and I'm not ever sorry. I strayed once and tried their green curry, but it was really watery... (best green curry is made at Osha Thai in SF). To top it off, their portions are huge. I'm all over quantity; you really do get your belly's worth here :)

4.5 stars! Decided to drop in right before closing with my girlfriend and it was better than the last time! ordered the pumpkin beef curry and pineapple fried rice. Both dishes were steaming hot and delicious... I swear you have to give this place more than one shot...the second time was better and this time better yet! Hopefully, they can get down the consistency and make it great every time!

Finally went here for dine-in. The service was slow to start-- an usual occurrence according to my companion. Seriously, they took forever to greet us and we were seated right next to their little server station! I was kinda grossed out by the dirty menus, specials, and...icky fake flower. The food was AWESOME however. So awesome I gave them 3 stars

I am pretty impressed with this place. It's a gem in my little ol' town cv! First off the decor is just lovely - its bright, but warm and neutral at the same time. And I love all of the little trinkets around the walls. The BF and I started with the Papaya Salad. The dressing was slightly too sweet, but had a nice tart and tamarind bite to it. It was pretty good, I just wish it had some spicyness up in the mix. For our entrees, we had the pad thai, and the spicy basil fried rice. The pad thai was also very sweet, which made the dish just ok for me. The fried rice on the other hand was perfect. It was spicy because of the jalepeno, savory bc of the basil, and sweet bc of the corn and veggies. nom nom! Thai tea was really sweet...it felt like 3/4 cream and 1/4 tea...I like it vice versa. Service here is really great too! I will be returning to Top Thai!

My wife and I had the fried trout, shrimp pad thai, and the curry mango seafood combo special. BAM! When the sauces mixed it's like the 4th of July in your mouth. Very impressed for our first time. Maybe a couple of more shrimp on the pad thai. We'll return.

Top Thai is my neighborhood go-to Thai restaurant. They have recently expanded and I've heard that they will be remodeling the older half of their restaurant soon. One of the fun things about Top Thai is that while you are waiting for your food (and you don't have to wait long) is that you can wander around the restaurant and shop. Yes, I said it... SHOP! They have cute items that have been imported from Thailand ranging from sassy affordable jewelry, to art work, purses, belts and more. I always walk out of this place with a new trinket. I get complimented all the time on the jewelry I get from here. Their dishes are all so tasty. Try the pumpkin curry, its seasonal but delicious. My favorites are the Tom Kha Soup (recently discovered), Thai Basil Chicken and Green Curry. Oh and their salads are also divine. The staff is friendly and attentive. Last time we dined here our waiter was over every few minutes to top off our wine glasses. The food is reasonably priced. I find that the portions seem larger when you dine-in vs. take out. I think the only negatives I might have is that parking can be difficult to find at times. And once, when I placed a to-go order by phone and showed up 15 minutes after - had to wait for an additional 15 minutes. I am here as often as I can be. As a matter of fact I might just go by and pick up some soup for tonight. Yum!!

I got my hopes up after reading the reviews but frankly it didn't own up at all. The food was average and wasn't any better than the Thai I've had elsewhere. The service was rather annoying. Out waitress repeated the item prices as we ordered which was quite odd and not appreciated. Our food was dropped off at our table with no indication as to what the item was or who it was for...impersonal. my mom said her salad was good, my dad said there was too much eggplant and too little fish in his seafood plate, and I think my pad kee mao was just like every other time I've had it. The coconut ice cream we got for dessert tasted nothing like coconut. Three stars because the food was average and the service was disappointing.

So my 1995 Saturn was recently stolen for the FOURTH TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it's gone for good...:( Groceries have been difficult to get and I was sitting here on a lazy Sunday, thinking I had about had it with Chinese delivery food...and remembered Top Thai! Their food is GREAT and I have never had greasy dishes here (as some other posters have experienced). The food came within half an hour. Woo hoo! Now, if only they would deliver a new car to me....

**Update** Recently dined-in after their remodel. The place is pretty nice inside. A huge difference compared to their old style of cramming too many tables together in an over-lit stale environment. Still, the Pla Goong Salad and the Basil Eggplant are the most pleasing items. That's where the 4 stars comes from. I continue to be disappointed whenever I try a second entree of chicken, pork, or beef. After giving them a shot on this 4 or 5 times now, I know it wasn't just a bad night over and over - the meat is always dry... stick with fish and veggies here.

So this has become the hubby & my official Thai spot.. It's a diamond in the rough, really. If you're looking for a place with streetlights, a parking lot with more than 4 crooked spots or not sharing a wall with a random little nail salon look elsewhere. You'd never see this place in a 3 store shopping center just outside a residential neighborhood. But if you know its there ( like we did thanks to Yelp) you'll be glad. If you want a cozy little spot with more eye candy than you can even take in (tons of wall decor, all brought by the owners from Thailand and all for sale), delicious dishes, good prices (entrees $8-14) and the speediest service even at busy dinner time this place is for you. Went there on a Wed night at 7:30, They have a smaller room with cozy 2-4 person booths but they sat us in the larger room and quickly accommodated for our group of 5 + baby (even made a carseat holder for us). The server was sweet, attentive, all servers appeared to be Thai, but communication was no issue. We ordered: Fresh Rolls- my FAVE dish, especially with shrimp, this is always a must Kee Maw- Husbands fave wide noodle & meat dish Jungle curry - good flavor, but so soupy we had to get bowls to share Honey bbq duck - DELISH And a basil fried rice dish that was good too And don't miss the Thai Iced Tea or the Thai Iced Coffe, both are the best. We all ate our fill, 3 had Thai beers, 2 iced teas and the total was about $70.

My boyfriend and I love this Thai restaurant! He introduced it to me when it was half the size it is now. When a restaurant can afford to expand in times like these, they must be doing something right, right? The food is always delicious with reasonable portions. We usually split the Tofu Pad Thai and the Tofu Yellow Curry. My birthday is 2 days before his and we had gone to Top Thai during our birthday weekend. The staff was pleasant, as usual, but we both were given a little gift. Wow! What a way to make you remember them...Great food and a cute little birthday gift. No unwanted birthday singing - thank you!

I've been a loyal customer for years but the last 6 months the customer service has gotten HORRENDOUS!!! The food is starting to not even make up for it. Rude and unfriendly on the phone and in person. Nobody should put up with that much attitude especially when they are a PAYING CUSTOMER!!! If I could give negative stars I would! Definitely looking for a new Thai restaurant!

  • Thia M.

The restaurant is nicely decorated, but other than that I haven't found the food to be outstanding, nor the service. The last time I visited the waiter got the order wrong and tried to charge me for it or make me eat it while arguing to me about it. I told him, can't you please just fix your mistake? Also,we got there earlier than others who came after us and still we had to wait much longer for our order. The food that came was a smaller portion than it used to be and without much flavor. Then the waiter did not give me a receipt and when I asked about it, he scribbled something on another piece of paper for me with an incorrect amount. I have tried this place 6 or 7 times and have not been impressed. Writing this Yelp has reminded me why I should not go back any more!

Good portions. Tried it out with a group of 7 friends and ordered several different dishes family style - every dish was good. Red curry has a punch - worth trying it out. Not much of a parking lot, but plenty of residential parking along the side street.

Love this place. It's a charming little spot. The walls are adorned w/ authentic art from Thailand - apparently the owner's wife travels back and forth from Thailand on a regular basis picking up things for the restaurant. The staff is very attentive and the owner takes a minute or two to ask how you're doing/small talk. Food is yummy, prices are reasonable and even better - we noticed that they just upped their portions! You'll definitely be taking food home. We usually get the chicken penang, pad kee mao and tofu fried rice. If you're in the area and craving for Thai, definitely try this place out!

We tried this place and got it to go. We got the BBQ pork (5 stars!!), the beef salad (3.5 stars), soup with chicken (4 stars), chicken wings (4 stars) and the Pad Thai (Wife said 1 star, I say 3 stars), Very friendly on the phone and in person. The place seemed nice inside and we plan on dining in next time.

ONE they deliver!!! And i know when places usually deliver the food is barely warm and NOT so great but this place rocks!!! They said 45 mins and it was exactly 40 mins, food was fresh and piping hot... We had the shrimp pad thai, the shrimp and tofu cooked perfectly as well as the noodles. We also had the red curry chicken and green curry pork with brown rice.. everything was wonderful and authentic... I highly recommend!!

My girlfriend and I love this place. The Thai basil is pretty good and the spring rolls are good as well. It's not the best Thai food place I've ever had but pretty close. We probably come here at least once or twice a month.

Now I'm a stickler when it comes to Thai Food. I have been spoiled by the best in SF and on this one cold evening I was craving something of Asian descent. My first thought was Top Thai and then my second was Original Fong's. Well, if I must say... if it wasn't for Original Fong's terrible phone service I wouldn't have entertained Top Thai that night. PEOPLE DON'T LIST YOUR RESTAURANT UNDER DELIVERY IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DELIVER... Note Taken: Original Fong's Anywhoo, Top Thai surprised me. Delivery Thai? What a concept!!! My kids had never had Thai and they went crazy for the wonton soup... not to mention the satay chicken with the peanut sauce. I was waiting for them to say "Mom, can we have this every Saturday night?"... but it never came. Maybe I'll have to sneak in a few more orders... The Pad Thai Noodles were pretty good just not fresh enough for me but I must admit the wonton soup was delish and the fact that they delivered within a half hour just made my night. I give them a great 4 stars because they thoroughly deserve it. Besides, they came to my rescue!!! You cute little Thai restaurant you. You're doing big things!!!

My husband and I love this place, great Thai food and love it even more because they offer free delivery in Castro Valley with purchases over $20. Why the 3 stars if we love this place? Tonight we order dinner at 6:15pm for delivery, the owner said it would be 30-45mins, we didn't get our food until 7:45pm. We would have let the lateness slide, but the driver was very rude and tonight the driver was the owner. Instead of apologizing for being late due to a busy night he asked if we wanted him to take back the food and said to order to go next rime if we didn't want to wait. How rude!! All we wanted was some sort of apology and we would have let it go. Since we enjoy Top Thai's food and it's located close to home, needless to say we will still dine there and think twice about delivery.

Food is excellent, prices reasonable, and servers are very cute in their ethnic costumes. Lots of asian patrons when we there--always a good sign for an Asian restaurant. We wouldn't order the combo appetizer again because it just didn't measure up to the rest of the delicious food we ordered. Highly recommend panamg, pad see we, & basil chicken. You can order several levels of heat. Parking is tough, but worth the hassle. We'll be back!

This place is really small inside so try to have a nice meal during non-rush hours. I had the pad Thai, yellow curry and some special they had on the board. The food is really tasty and the portions are on the medium size. Lovely place for Thai food but parking can be a problem since there are only a couple of spaces on the side of the building next to the Taco place.

Upon a recommendation, the four of us had dinner at Top Thai. We were seated in the annexed room. The ambiance and decorations are very nice. However, the size of the booth was way too large. If we sat with our backs up again the booth seat, then there was a large distance from the table to us. Thus, we had to sit forward on our seats to reach the table. This is not a comfortable position if you have a back problem (if this is your case, then you should ask to be seated at a table that has chairs). We ordered 2 apps, 4 main dishes, and dessert. Everything was delicious... The items were served in a timely manner and the waitress was very good. The wine selection was minimum, but quite affordable. We would definitely go there again, but would sit at a table with chairs.

The dinner portions are significantly larger than the lunch meals. The food is above average, I recommend the pineapple fried rice. They remodeled the interior about a year ago and it feels a little more cozy now.

Been here twice now for lunch and really like the food. The lunch specials for $6.95 include an entree, rice, salad AND a drink. Pretty good value I'd say. Tried the honey bbq pork, chicken satay and the pad thai. All solid choices. Big shrimp in the pad thai, unlike some places that give you those tiny ones.Service was friendly in this small, but comfy place. Parking is limited outside.

I always drive past this place on my way to the gym and see that there are always a lot of people dining inside this tiny restaurant. I think to myself that it must be pretty good and that I should try it sometime and then I remember that I'm on way to the gym and should not be fantasizing about eating coconut milk enriched foods. Well, I finally gave into temptation on my boyfriends suggestion that we try it this weekend. The restaurant is indeed small but comfortable. The walls are adorned with art for sale from Thailand and many other artifacts are for sale as well. We later learn from one of the owners that he and his wife own a home in Thailand and bring stuff back to sell. The service was prompt and friendly but nothing extraordinary. Ok now for the good stuff...the food. We ordered the standard three items when trying a new Thai place: Pad Thai, Yellow Curry Chicken and Puram Beef. The Pad Thai was pretty good and not greasy so that was great but again nothing extraordinary there. Next the yellow curry chicken, I really enjoyed the sauce it was not too watery but not really thick either and it was very tasty and flavorful. I also really liked the peanut sauce on the Puram Beef. They got the sauces pretty much down. The only ting I wished for was that the beef be more tender also the potatoes in the yellow curry were a bit hard not soft. Portions were very generous and they pack our leftovers up for us to take home. We also learned that they deliver for free anywhere in Castro Valley...I'm pretty sure we will be taking advantage of that. We will absolutely go back as there were some other dishes we saw people order that looked great. One was the pineapple fried rice with a medley of seafood. Also they had some great looking specials on the board that we wished we ordered. So next time we will stray away from the staples and try other dishes. I'll be sure to update this review when we do.

I apologize for the rude opening to my review, but this is a place to air out opinion and had I been satisfied it would have been a different story. Well the reason for my poor review in greater detail, is the lack of flavor and the mere carelessness that went into preparing the dish. Spicy fried rice seemed quickly made because the chicken was WAY too dry, and half the dish was dark, and the other half was white. The same goes for the pad se ew. The noodles had areas of white which means it wasn't stirred or mixed up well, or I don't know why. I never seen this before. I didn't mention this to the cashier cause I didn't open up each to go box and check the contents, in expectation that it would have that problem. My drive was a short distance away and I really don't think that would have made a difference. I'm sorry it was not a good experience too, cause I love Thai food and it was just a huge miss in the Thai flavor and Thai Spice that Thai lovers crave. Since this place has so many good reviews, I may have been there on a off day, and I'm sure that's the case To their credit, they did contact me to make things right. I can appreciate that and thank you Top Thai for that. I don't think I will be revisiting again though. Sorry.

I've ordered pick up from this place a few times and they are pretty consistent. The barbecue chicken is always very tender and moist, vegetables cooked but still slightly firm, good spring rolls and cucumber salad. My fiancee and I clean out the containers every time.

Love this place, service is great and the food is fresh. I go back for the Chicken Param and Thai ice tea.

I love this place! Great food and a beautiful setting. Try their pumpkin curry its amazing. My only complaint is the parking lot is small.

This is a cute little Thai bistro owned by a friendly white dude who loves Thailand. We've talked with him about it and he is definitely committed to bringing an authentic Thai experience to his customers. The decor is actual imported Thai stuff, which you can buy, and the cooks seem to be really Thai. The food is some of the freshest, most expertly cooked food I've had. The cashews a nice and crunchy and the high quality chicken pieces are tender but seared golden on the outside. I must say though, the flavors are very light (not bland, but light), and the place is quite small. For these it looses a star. The prices are very reasonable and we are always satisfied when we dine here. So really, I have only good to say about Top Thai. I highly recommend it!

When we first starting coming here, it was great. The last 3-4 times I've been here, it wasn't so great. And forget about take out. Everytime we've picked up food from here, it was barely edible. They have good lunch specials, but lately the pad thai has been really bland, almost as if they are skimping on the seasoning. Just lots of bland noodles with little flavor. I would give this place a 4 for when we first came, and give it a 2 from our recent experience. That would make it a 2.5 which yelp won't let you do, so I gave it a 3.

I am going to give this place a three. The food is good, creamy yellow curry, reasonable price, moderate amount of food. I had to dock a star, because I asked for it spicy, I made sure to ask twice and when I got home and made my little plate this curry had no spice. Like no heat what so ever. That is not a nice surprise. The service is friendly and fast. The parking lot is a bit of a pain, bad planning all the way around on that.

Good food. Nothing exceptional. Only complaint is that the experience has not always been consistent.

Just went here for the first time today... The food I had (pad see ew) was good, but what really made it was some red peppers that came in a set of four spices delivered to our table. Thai iced tea was good too!

I've now been to this place about 3 times. I like them but on my last visit, I asked to take home my food and the girl grabbed all three of our plates at the same time to wrap up. I knew she was going to get them wrong and she did of course. However, I usually order their green curry which is nice and tasty. However I wasn't too impress with their Pad Thai. I thought it was too greasy and lacked a lot of flavor and spices. I prefer to also have lime and cilantro in it as well. When I asked our server to bring out a lime, she came out with a lemon. That was not cool. Lemon and limes are not the same, citrus fruits yes but the same no.

  • Dale E.

This place is alright, it delivers which is why it got a 3 star. The pat thai is a bit bland, and the portions aren't all that great. The curry puffs are definitely worth it though, and I would recommend this place to friends who are looking for thai delivery. I would say that lime leaf thai is better all around though

  • Lauren A.

I personally like this restaurant. The thai food here is great! Great pad thai, love the clay pot chicken (lunch special), and love the yellow curry! Really authentic, fresh food. The lunch specials are also excellent - It includes a salad, lunch entree, dessert (ice cream), and free drink (thai iced tea) all for about 6.99! Great deal... great portions! Definitely always wanting to come back here!!! :)

  • kristen f.

I have been to this place 3 times and probably will not go back after the last visit. The waitress was very unfriendly got our order wrong twice. The pad thai was over cooked and the food just did not taste the same the first time coming here. The delivery driver sits at a table close to the kitchen and just seems to stare at people eating makes you feel uncomfortable.

Love this restaurant. This is one of the best places to go for Thai food. There are good choices on the menu and the dishes are well priced. The restaurant has a delightful ambiance and the artifacts that hang on the walls are beautiful. Recommend anyone looking for good Thai food to pay a visit here.

Top Thai, take out and delivery, was written on the top of the menu my coworker handed me. So I dropped in, got my yellow curry and Mon Tod, and back to work. The food I ordered was good, the prices...a little high, $7 for the curry and $6.25 for the Mon Tod. And a slight bummer for being take out/delivery only. Overall, a good place in a starving town.

  • Christina W.

Top Thai is the best thai food in Castro Valley. The best Thai in Alameda County. Try their food and you are hooked. The prices are average but you sure can't beat the home delivery. Also try their lunch specials. They come with soup and a Thai ice tea.

  • Chris W.

This is a good Thai restaurant at reasonable prices. I have had the BBQ chicken, pork the pad thai, the yum num, thai basil (this was not my favorite), and yellow curry. All of these are good. Nothing was Thai spicy, everything was flavorful.

This horrendous, rip-off place called itself "fine dining." My ass! After moving to Castro Valley for a year and driving by this place weekly, I stopped in for dinner. I ordered a bowl of "Tom Yung Gong" soup that tasted like sugar water. The bowl was about the size of a personal rice bowl and they asked if I wanted to share with my wife. What an insult. I expected a freaking bowl that serves a party of four. They used cheap chicken meat instead of seafood like squid and shrimp. And they wanted to charge me $7.50 for it. I also ordered the spiciest curry chicken and that tasted like sugar beverage as well. WTF? Why are their shits tastes so sweet for Thai food? The portion is very small for an $8.00 dish. To sum it up: parking sucks, place is small, food is horrible, use cheap ingreadients, expensive, small portion for the price, and not "fine dining" as it called itself. PLEASE STAY AWAY from this HOLE IN THE WALL.

Being a business owner, I don't write a review until I'm sure that I'm giving a fair and honest opinion. Why? Because I know that a bad review can have a real financial effect on a business and during these tough times I don't want to do that to anyone if I can help it. I've lost track of how many times I've been to Top Thai. I keep going back, so that must say something. I get really mad when the food sucks. You know what I mean, I work hard for my money and wasting it on lousy food just irks me. Here we go..... If I'm going to have soup, which I'm not, I'll have their Tom Kha Vegitarian, (that one rules, the chicken does not.) My girlfriend, Susan, (whom I adore), has the vegitarian and every now and then I'll steal a spoonful and wonder why I didn't order it. Well, the reason I don't order the soup is because of the Pla Goong, shrimp seasoned with fresh mint leaves, lemon grass and thai lime vinaigrette. Sure it may be considered pedestrian, but the taste and presentation make me a happy camper with each fork full. (Fill out the deposit slip and take this one to the bank.) Let's get one thing straight, Castro Valley is not he mecca of thai food. Think: Saving on gas and eating local. Order the Pineapple Fried Rice, good with everything. Penang chicken, yes you can say Penang Chicken Curry, but that makes you sound like you don't get out much. Penang is curry. Traditionally includes dried chili peppers, galangal, lemongrass, coriander root, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, garlic, and salt, and sometimes also shallots, peanuts, and shrimp paste. Top Thai Penang is tasty and satisfying. My friend Sarak is thai and he loves this stuff, and he also seldom pays, go figure. Camille, will have the pumpkin curry and she says that's pretty good too. While Susan will often have the shrimp pad tai. Final, parting shot, the waitress Linda is the best. She's thai and nice, excellent service.

So me and the boyfriend came back to this place after the owner Greg responded to our review and offered us a meal on him for our experience and this time, I have to say everything was great! We were promptly greeted and led to a vacant table. We ordered angel wings, (a favorite), with Garlic Lemon Sea Bass for me and BBQ Beef for the bf and would have to say everything was great. The sea bass portion was huge and great for the price! I will definitely be back! Thanks Greg for the reputable customer service.. We will definitely be back

I was really impressed with this place. We tried the green curry with chicken, roasted duck curry, and the pineapple fried rice. The best part of the meal was the pineapple fried rice. I would have to say that it was the best pineapple fried rice I have ever had. It was incredibly savory, was chock-full of yummy seafood--mussels, scallops, shrimp and calamari, topped with green onions and fresh herbs and was overall very tasty. The green curry and duck were also really good dishes. The vegetables in these dishes were very fresh and infused with the flavor of the curry sauces and the meat was tender and not overcooked. We will definitely go back to this place.

I love Thai food!!! This place is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the bay area. I've been coming here since 2009 and still coming from Danville! I usually don't like the strong, flavorful smell in food, but something about this place is interesting... The interior design of the store is amazingly gorgeous and employees there are friendly, not overly stuck up. My friend and I usually order fried rice and Kee Mao chicken, but one day we were starving after our chaotic finals so we started with the Crispy Chicken Wing (one of appetizers). Yes! It was not too salty and overcooked, which I was impressed. Then I ordered red pumpkin curry... hmm unfortunately, it was not one of my favorites. It's just wasnt overall... balanced? (in my taste! of course) The idea that they included some raw sliced pumpkins was unique, but with the spicy curry smell and sweetness of the pumpkin didn't go well in my taste... Thai tea was too sweetened so I ususally mix with water so that I can even taste the richness of the tea. And the service is very fast and you wouldn't need to wait long for the food to be on your table. Oh, the bathroom's door is kinda hard to push so just be careful when you get out because you might get slapped by the door from the back. My friend thought she was stuck in there because the door was very stiff. I do recommand this place just beause the service is fast and food is okay.

Wow, I can't believe this place got such good reviews. I ordered take out from here for the first time based on the reviews and because my mom's friend said it was good as well. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. First off, upon entering it was like stepping into a sauna. So freaking hot in there! I ordered the Pad Thai, eggplant and beef, and fried chicken wings, and a Thai iced tea (which I didn't realize we had both forgotten about this until I got home). When I opened the box with the Pad Thai I was surprised to find the noodles to be white in color. Hmm? Well maybe it'll taste more flavorful than it looks. Sadly, it tasted just as bland as it looked. To make it worse the chicken and tofu were extremely dry and lacking in flavor as well. Okay, so I won't eat the Pad Thai, I still have the eggplant and beef, rice, and fried chicken wings. The eggplant and beef was to my surprise very flavorful and I was feeling a little better at this point. Once I got to the fried chicken wings though it was back to flavorless dry chicken. What an awful experience! I've never had such flavorless Thai food before and I don't know how they had gotten such good reviews. Never ordering from here again! I'd rather drive farther for some flavorful Thai food. ***After reading the owner's comment I just wanted to add that I was quoted 20 mins for when my food would be ready, I arrived after 15mins of placing my order, and it only took 5mins to get home. There is no way in hell food would lose all it's flavor and become extremely dry in the 10mins it takes for me to get home and start eating. I've gotten take-out from Union City and Dublin many times before and have never had the same experience. I do not buy the excuse that dine-in food would be better than take-out food because I've had very good take-out from many places. If you think I'm being harsh, just think what you would have thought if you were in my position. This review is based on MY experience so obviously it will be different for someone else, maybe who wasn't given flavorless dry food, I'm changing my review from 2 stars to 1 star because the owner had the balls to blame a customer for his food not tasting good.

Top Thai is the best Thai food in Castro Valley. Their food is always consistent and the service is fast and courteous. Pricing is agreeable and they deliver if you are in the area. Wether your in the mood for apps, soup, or an entree, everything is very tasty and fresh. Desserts are good too but are limited, we usually get too full for them anyway. Booths and tables are comfortable and the ambiance is put together well. You will not be disappointed.

sorry, tro vall, this is not what i expect from a four star thai joint. our meal of pad see ew, silver noodle soup, and yellow curry was well... not amazing. the meat was dry. the veggies were few, and either overcooked or undercooked. the flavors were mediocre. i think the only nice thing i can say is that the broth in the silver noodle soup was good. alas, still on the search for deliciousness near the tro vall/san lorenzo/hey word-up border. greg: we took it to-go. and this ain't "scathing." i was trying to be nice. but i can really cut loose, so yes, i will try your food again.

I'm not a picky eater, but I've been here three times. The first time I went, the food was decent, but then again, I was starving. The second time I went, it wasn't too memorable. The last time I went, it was memorable all right. I ordered, the yellow curry, the Tom Yum Soup, and the Pad Thai. The curry and the soup was so watered down, it wasn't even enjoyable. Seriously, if you're gonna water it down, do it so I can't tell. The only thing worth eating was the Pad Thai. That was decent and my wife said there was only four shrimp there. So, how am I going to rate this? The first time was a 3.5 star. I was hungry, but I enjoyed the meal as I was there with a group. The second time was a 3, and the last time was a 1. So overall, this place is a two plus star. Top Thai - it only takes one bad experience to make a customer go elsewhere. I'm not the only one that thinks your curry is watered down (read previous reviews).

I've always got delivery and the food has always been yummy and hot. I've only ordered Angel stuffed wings, some fat noodle thing and bbq beef. My sis always orders the food for us because this is her restaurant so that's why I'm not sure what the names are. I also tasted the yellow curry and some type of pumpkin soup. I would order from this place all the time if I lived in the area.

Nothing excite. Just average Thai food at best. Would be one star but since it is a decent Thai restaurant in CV. Hate that they use dry chicken breast in most of dishes. Did order a curry dish with pork but couldn't tell between it and the chicken. Best thing going was pineapple fried rice. Small portions too.

I had the panang curry-excellent. Then I had the mango and sticky rice-again excellent. I can't give it 5 stars though because they have a lot of menu choices, but the service and food was excellent-highly recommended, at least from a curry perspective! The restaurant was small though, so seating appeared to be around 30 people maximum. I will be more than happy to go there again for something else.

This is one of the better places in the area and some dishes are comparable to restaurants in Berkeley, while others are watered down and don't have the spices that I am accustomed to. Some things to definitely try out are the Pad Thai (a little pricey, but good portions). Thai ice coffee is also good. Dishes that need improvement: Panang Curry - needs to have more POP!...A little less coconut, and more flavor please. And real curry needs to simmer in the curry base. Looks like they pre-cook the base, and added meat and vegetables after the fact. I guess this helps with getting your food out quicker. One suggestion, please do not sacrifice the quality. =)

I love this place. Usually order to go, but occasionally i'll actually sit in the restaurant and eat. The decor is nice and relaxing. The food is delicious usually get the praram, pad see ew, and yellow curry. Their consistency is amazing. Some restaurants can't get the thai iced tea made the way I like it, but this place has one of the better ones i've had. They have good lunch specials for $6 - 7. Comes with an entree, rice, salad, and a drink. If you do take out, you get everything except the drink.

I was craving for thai food, and found this little restaurant. This place is decent, when you're ordering a curry. Don't order anything BBQ because the meat is DRY. I've been here a few times and the only thing worth getting is the lunch special and the curry. Compared to Lime Leaf Thai, the food here isn't as expensive and the portions are nice. The good thing is that this place delivers, the delivery man seemed like a really nice guy.

Oh man....I was really hoping this was as great as everyone said. It was far from it. We have been looking for good chinese/thai/vietnamese take out/delivery in our area for awhile and have been nothing but disappointed. Top Thai is right up there with the rest of them. We weren't adventuresome, we went with basil chicke, vegetable pad thai, peanut sauce tofu and veggies and the fresh vegetable spring rolls. By the time the food arrived (30 minutes past the 30-45 minute window they gave us - and we live on a main street) the food was cold and EVERYTHING WAS BLAND! I couldn't believe it! I mean, come on! I make pad thai at home. It isnt hard. The basil chicken was the only thing I saved to eat fo rlunch tomorrow. $40 down the drain.

We have never tip-toed inside but get delivery a few times a month... tom kah soup, beef satay with peanut sauce, angel wings, pad thai, green curry...everything has always been excellent. It is well priced and delivers quickly. Portion sizes always leave some for lunch the next day.

Food is amazing. Definitely recommend going for the lunch special. Lunch comes with the main course, a salad, thai iced tea, and a side of rice only for $7.00. The dinner portions are bigger but dont come with those things included. Regardless the food is awesome. The waiters are.. ehhh. Never really smile or talk to me, but the food is awesome! The curry is the best. Its real healthy and filling. The noodle dishes are delicious as well. Overall its awesome!

Parking here does suck but we seem to manage. We also get the staples and they do it fairly well. No complaints and its close to where we live so we go here a lot. I say it's above average. We also get the chicken yellow curry, and the pad thai. So we recommend those dishes.

Its fun that Castro Valley has 3 Thia restaurants - one even across from the other.. and Top Thai is one of those. This spot offers a tasty lunch value that I really enjoy. The Clay Pot is amazing full of flavor and the special comes with a drink and very friendly service. The dinner menu is just as good. and vs the other 2 Thia's in the hood - this one is up there with great service and food .. Vmedia

I love the food, my fave are chicken satay, pineapple fried rice, they have a affordable lunch menu. the only reason why i am giving this a 3- star rating is the service of the lady whom i believe to be the owner's daughter, she is rude on the phone and when I pick up my orders and she wouldn't smile or anything just flat rude. I've been trying not to write a review for this restau but she has been so consistent of giving customers BIG ATTITUDE.

Castro Valley is not a hub for fine dining. You've got your standard fast food joints, a few pizza places, and some Mexican restaurants. So when Top Thai opened up a couple of years ago, I was excited and stopped in for some take-out. What I found was so-so food at a really high price thus never went back. However today I had a lunch date with a co-worker who suggested Top Thai. Being that I was eager to get out of the office and too lazy to come up with an alternative, I agreed. And I'm glad I gave them another chance because I had an enjoyable meal. The restaurant offers a $6.99 lunch special that comes with an entree, a soup, and an egg roll. The selection is vast - several BBQ plates, curries, vegetarian dishes, and rice and noodle entrees to choose from. I opted for the Kee Mao Kai (rice noodle with chicken, basil, and vegetable). The dish was hearty (enough leftovers for one more meal) and flavorful. It seems that there is only one person manning the restaurant so if you do come here during lunch, I recommend you arrive early. Service was prompt when we were seated - waters and soup served almost immediately. However, it was a tad more difficult to get our check and run the credit card when the rest of the lunch crowd arrived. Castro Valley still sucks when it comes to good eating. But I guess Top Thai just brought it up an extra few notches.

Changed my point of view after all... I've given a third thought about this place. Got to know one of the owners, Greg; very nice guy and easy to talk to. It maybe a mom and pop restaurant but this used to be one of those italian bistro's along little ol' castro valley restaurant joints. Not that many thai restaurants around this area except for the one across the street. But most people would definitely go here. During lunch it is always packed, they've got this great menu selection that comes with a drink, entree, salad and even include your desert~What a treat! that is if you still have the stomach to eat your desert. Dinner time you will have to come in at the right time or else it will always be packed especially on fridays, saturdays and sundays. oh yeah they do deliver~FREE~around castro valley if you live around the neighborhood. I had my opinion posted before and what changed my mind was that, first time around may be bad, second time went good and the third time around was great! I never thought that third time visiting would be change my mind after all. Happy eating! Cheers, yo!

FINALLY a good thai restaurant in castro valley! i love this place...i used to go to smile thai in hayward until they closed, so this is my new go-to restaurant when im craving thai food. Its not as spicy as traditional thai food is made, but hey - it's castro valley, so what do you want. lol Lunch menu prices are great, you get a small cup of soup, an entree, and a drink for 6 or 7 bucks. Service is great. Like i mentioned before, I would be nice if the food was a little spicier like authentic thai food. The Panang curry is delicious ;) nevertheless, go check it out. it's good.

It's a very lovely place. The soup was good, and yellow curry was good, thai ice tea was good, however, they forgot to give us the special sauce it should come with the fried rice. The waitress was really friendly and greeting us when she served us the soup.

So I am not a fan of Thai food, but my mom is and this location is pretty decent and not too far from my house. I just had chicken and my mom had Pad Thai. Nothing special but it was okay. One thing that we really enjoyed were the deserts. we had the fried banana complimented by the mango ice cream. Similar to filipino desserts I enjoy which is probably why I really liked it. I've still only been there once but the pictures of the other desserts look good.

So I decided to Top Thai because for some reason Thai Garden over in Hayward is closed on Sundays *gasp*. I had a serious craving for Thai food so I figured since this place was close to home I could give it a try. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy. There's a lot of interesting decorations hanging on the walls, and I thought the little thank you notes written by customers that were tucked underneath the glass table top were a cute touch. The staff was at first a little preoccupied with another table but was generally attentive and super nice. ON TO THE FOOD.... I ordered the Stuffed Angel Wings ($6.95) which came out fairly quickly. The wings were hot and crispy, but I was completely unimpressed by the pork filling. Now this is actually the first time I've ever ordered Angel Wings so I have no real basis for a comparison, however I thought that the filling could have used a little more kick. Perhaps some ginger or lemongrass? Also I didn't enjoy the "plum" sauce that came out. It looked more like it was supposed to be sweet and sour sauce and it just tasted weird to me. I then ordered the BBQ Beef, Vegetables Yellow Curry, and Spicy Basil Fried Rice with pork. The beef had decent flavor but was a little tough and wasn't hot enough. It also came with that sauce that I didn't like (so I passed on putting it on the beef). The portion was ALOT smaller than I expected so in the end I felt that the beef wasn't worth the $9.25. The Yellow Curry ($7.50) didn't have that heavenly creamy coconut milky goodness that I was craving however I do find that every place does curry a little different. It was still tasty despite the chunks of potato that were still crunchy and not completely cooked through. The Spicy Basil Fried Rice with Pork ($9.95) was by far the yummiest thing that we consumed. The dish was not spicy in any way shape or form but I suppose that you can request to make it spicy if you want to. My picky 4 year old loved it, and so did my bf who is generally hesitant to try new things. I was definitely not happy about paying $9.95 for the rice (ITS FRIED RICE!!!) but I am certainly glad that I ordered it. It had a lovely balanced flavor and a delicious basil-y aroma and was just yummy all around. Needless to say the food needs a little bit of work but I definitely intend to take give it another go and take advantage of their free delivery. I personally like the food at Thai Garden in Hayward a little better, but I've been there quite a few times and to this place only once. I am willing to try out some other dishes but will probably order the Basil Rice again even if it is almost $10!!!!!!!

woo-hoo! As good as it gets!.... at least in castro valley. I've had much better Thai food at Berkley (Of course. Ethnic food heaven), but Top Thai is rather good! I'd venture to say it's one of the best retaurants in Castro Valley. Everything I've had here is always fresh and well seasoned. I love the Pad Kee Mow, the jungle curry, and the pineapple fried rice. Top Thai is one of the tiniest restaurants you'll ever go to, but it's a nice kind of clutter. I never get bored looking at the wood carvings and prints on the wall. Damn.. now I'm kinda craving Pad Thai and Thai iced coffee. BTW: Make sure to take a look at the jewlery cabinet in the corner. They have a great selection of interesting jewlery from Thailand. I bought a really unique wooden necklace there. edit: The restraunt is bigger now. they added a new little part to it with a bar.

my go to thai place in castro valley. i guess thats not saying much since castro valley doesnt have many thai places....but its pretty LEGIT. I've always had good service and never had a problem with the waiters and waitresses giving any attitude. They always refill my waters serve the food quick. No conversations or anything but things are delivered and cleaned with a smile. thats all i ask from a small joint like this. serve my food. be happy. The food is pretty dang good too. Pumpkin red curry is helllla good but they only serve it for dinner. I've had it twice and once the pumpkin was a bit hard but then the second time it was nice and chewy perfection. The other staples are good: all the curries, pad thai, pad kee mow, etc. etc. all yums. Pricing is decent its the same at any other thai place so not cheap but not expensive for what it is. So if you're craving some thai and you're in the area come to top thai for some legit thai food at a city you wouldnt think would be so diverse... OH and they have art and decorations that they sell off the wall that they themselves bring over from thailand so pretty neat

Thank God for delivery! We just had no energy and it was too cold to go out, so we placed our orders, dinner special for me (bbq chicken and green papaya salad), and my boyfriend had pineapple fried rice (shrimp only) and pad thai. We also got the Mun Tod for an appetizer....OMGSH soooooo good! The salad was so good, and the pineapple fried rice was perfect! Oh and did I mention that they DELIVER?!

I wouldn't call this place Top Thai. Maybe Middle Thai. Definitely not Bottom Thai. Nothing looked appetizing, but when you ate it, it tasted pretty damn good. So don't go here if you wanna get dazzled by the way the food looks. We had the Pad Thai (of course) and the Green Curry. The Pad looked bland like you'd expect in Thai food from a blue collar whitey town. But this had the sweetest/sourest taste I've experienced in the dish. Really surprising. The Green Curry looked like they forgot the green. Actually, so white they should just call it coconut sauce. But even this tasted good. Just rename it and stop trying to fool us. Definitely don't expect to be impressed. First person I saw working there was an old white guy who didn't notice us for a few minutes before we finally asked him if we should seat ourselves. Then he got our tea order wrong giving us the ice instead of the hot. Damn gotta go. Wife needs the computer. OK, OK. here jeeze.

It's great that Castro Valley finally has a good Thai place. The food is good and the food is moderately priced. They recently expanded it so it's a lot bigger than it used to be. They even do deliveries inside Castro Valley.

We found the food to be fairly bland and the waitstaff weren't as attentive as could have been desired (my drink was empty for nearly 10 minutes before anyone was even around to flag down). The blandness (and this is missing flavor and missing heat, not just heat) might have been what we ordered, but pad thai is pretty basic. It should taste like more than noodles with a very faint aftertaste to them. All in all, it wasn't good enough to be worth trying again from what we saw, though everyone has an off night now and again.

Very poor... Very sweet, very bland and the sauces were quite viscous with corn starch. We were most unimpressed. Not a great selection for vegetarians. Try Lime Leaf Thai in the Castro Village or go to Thai Garden down the road in Hayward for better Thai. UPDATE: The owner has contacted me several times to try and get me to change this review. They even offered us a free meal, I assume in exchange for a better review. Sorry but we don't roll like that. It seems he or she now offer a vegetarian menu so we will try it again but not on their dime and if the sauces are still too sweet, you can bet were still going to pan the place. Dumping sugar into everything is 90% of what's wrong with food in this part of the world. I call it like I see it and mention how much I dislike over-sweetened curries, even in the places I review more favorably than this one. Stay tuned for more Thai food drama.

We went here because of the 4 star reviews and because Pad thai restaurant was having a private party. My wife ordered the chicken pad thai and it was slimy and not full of alot of flavor, I ordered the panang curry and it was good. The reason for the 2 stars was the absolutely pitiful service, I was baffled on how poor the service was. While we were in there at least one person got up and left because they did not get a waitress to help them. There were at least 5 waitresses and when one was working at least 2 of them were texting or talking on the phone. Won't get my business again.

Very tasty food, but the last two times I was there (several months ago) the waitress was really pushy and made us feel rushed to order even though the restaurant was fairly empty and we were no where near closing time.

Very reasonable prices. Can't beat the lunch special. Definitely the best Thai in Castro Valley which I know of 2 other places. I have always enjoyed the food here. I have tried quite a variety off the menu. I love the Pla Goong which is a shrimp salad.

Quaint little restaurant tucked within Castro Valley's dizzying variety of fast food. The Pad See Ew is very a favorite as well as the Pad Kee Mow. The Thai iced coffee is delish! Definitely my current spot for Thai!

I was driving on the road, hungry, and found this place by accident. I immediately fell in love with this place. The lunch speacials are awesome. Mostly of th dishes are only 6.99 or 7.99 and it includes a free drink. I ordered thai roasted duck for myself and pad thai for my husband. They are delicious. I am a big fan of Thai ice tea. Eveyrhing is just too good to be true!

I used to come here regularly with my mom and friends, but as a college student it has become a bit too expensive. The food is always wonderful, and the waiters and waitresses are friendly for the most part. I can't say that I've had a bad experience here, but it has never been above and beyond either. I love the pad thai and po tak soup... the curry is fantastic also. I was a little disappointed that the desserts were so expensive - $6-7 for some sticky rice and a small scoop of ice cream? Come on. I wouldn't say it's too kid friendly, more of a place for adults and business meetings. I love the artwork on the walls and the color theming.

Pretty good food for a pretty good price. Their mushroom and coconut milk seemed to have more soup and not too much mushroom and chicken. The service was eh. Had to ask a few times for chopsticks and water. And when asked about the thai tea the waitress didn't seem to know much about what was in it.

Oh Top Thai I wanted to like you and you were close to being good. We decided to try this place on a whim and figured with all the good reviews it would be decent to good. Unfortunately we were disappointed. We ordered 3 dishes: Panang Curry with beef, Thai basil chicken and pad see ew. Well the panang Curry was the worst dish of them all, apparently they just waived the panang curry paste near the dish as it was really really watered down barely any flavor and the beef was really tough. The thai basil chicken was decent, still lacked in flavor but way better than the curry. Surprisingly the Pad see ew saved the night, this dish was actually pretty good and would have giving this place a 3-3.5 star status if it were not for the horrible Panang Curry. I guess they cook to the local tastes but I am willing to try it again (mainly due to the Pad see ew) and maybe revise my review later after tasting a few other dishes. Edit: Mr. Greg (owner), no flame war nothing personal against you or your nice little restaurant. I'm sorry I didn't like your food, plenty of people here on the board do tho. Revel in the fact there is more positive here for you than my negativity. Sorry I won't be taking any more personal messages from you.

Top Thai is a great little place to have some really good Thai food. Very small location, that does a booming take out business. Castro Valley lacks good clean restaurants. Top Thai is consistently good, with a nice friendly atmosphere provided from the owners. Good job!

Yummy! All six of us liked the food - even the two toddlers. The green curry rice was on the specials menu but was really good. BBQ Chicken also very tasty, especially with the special sauce. Have gone back 3 more times and not disappointed.

castro valley isn't overflowing with options - so when we find a place with better than decent food - we are pretty excited. I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty the food was. We had drunken noodles (pad see ew) and a red beef curry. both were great.

If you're looking for authentic thai food... keep on looking. This place is more of a thai fusion with expensive prices to go with service befitting a hole in the wall restaurant. Food tastes like bland. The one thing though that stuck out with every dish though was the sweetness. Thai is usually known for sweet, spicy, and sour food. This place only had sweet; tasted like i was in a candy shop. I can see why there are alot of americans here as the food seems to be catered to their tastes. I was very tempted to ask the staff to see if they actually would eat the food that came out for the guests; Methinks not. Tastes nothing like home. I'd give this zero stars if i could.

Owner emailed me 3 days ago asking for us to try them again. I will update my review after eating there again. In response to the owner's comment of my honest opinion on Yelp: Thanks for offering a 50% discount the next time we visit. Your chicken may be fresh, but the cooking made the chicken taste very tough. It is odd that during lunch time we had to look for someone to seat us.Your small restaurant is split in half and though it is hard for you to see how this could have happened... IT DID. So, you should have a talk with your staff and make sure not all of them are in the kitchen all at once.

After checking out the reviews of this place on yelp...I finally decided to take a dive into this place. I met up with a couple of friends the other day for an after work dinner. Although this place is small inside, and the parking isn't readily available (you'll have to park on the side streets), the food here is great. The wall decor and colors inside reminded my friend of Thailand. We ate family style, the three of us bacame fans of the Pad See Ew. Bonus about this place: you can order take out.

I want to amend my review to state that Top Thai does use gluten in their fried appetizers. This was either changed or I was given incorrect information originally. Because I don't think to order fried foods, I didn't know when I put up my first review and I apologize. Last I checked they are still using gluten free and wheat free soy sauce, but it is a great idea to ask them to bring out the ingredients in the soy sauce from the kitchen to double check. I do know that they refill from a larger reservoir and so just ask the servers for the ingredients. I will also comment that we noticed the last time we went in that they are using Melamine bowls now, at least for the curry dish that we ordered. This is a type of plastic. We have been coming here for years and they have always in the past used ceramic bowls and I would prefer if they would stick to ceramic and glass. I mean hey, if we want to eat from plastic, we would just order takeout.

Wasn't bad. I had the Mon-Sat lunch special TFC (Thailand Fried Chicken) It was good coating, but thin pieces. The curry fried rice was pretty good. I'd only go back for the lunch specials. The other food was okay considering we just had Champa Garden the night before.

Top thai, So much to say! Classified as my favorite place in the world!! I always order the number 1 which is Satayed Chicken with peanut sauce, rice, and a cucumber salad. I would only go for lunch though because after 5 they raise the prices. And they also Deliver!!! I love top thai!!!

Top Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Bay Area. What stands out the most to me is the freshness of their ingredients. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but the vegetables and herbs and spices have this freshness about them that you don't always taste in Thai food (with sauces and over cooking taking over fresh flavor.) I really enjoy their eggplant dish and their pad thai. I also like the ambience. Since their renovations a couple of years back, the place is nicely decorated and is also very clean. I think I'd eat there all the time and not wander anywhere else if they just had massaman curry as well. But, definitely worth a try!

Best Thai food in the area! Love this place. If you can, try going for their amazing lunch specials. You can try out the different entrees at their amazing lunch special prices (that come with salad and a drink). And parking isn't usually an issue at lunch. Dinner on the other hand, just be prepared to not park right next to the restaurant... but it will be well worth it. We have been going here for years and even with their expansion to double their capacity, it's still very busy almost all the time. Very happy to have such a great Thai place so close by! For our family, we tend to stick with our favorites: Kee Mao, Pad See Ew, Pad Thai with Shrimp, Pineapple Fried Rice, Basil Eggplant, Thai Basil Pork, and Chicken Satay. For desert, the Mango Sticky Rice and Fried Bananas always hit the spot!

Having been spoiled by the great Thai food in San Francisco, finding this gem in CV was a pleasant surprise. Their pad thai is within the top three best I've ever had, including when I was in Thailand. The customer service is good, the wait staff is really friendly. Cozy interior, casual yet nice, and kid-friendly. It's already become one of our regular places to go.

Top Thai is without a doubt one of the best Thai restaurants in the Bay Area. My family just went here for Christmas Day lunch, as has been our tradition on most holidays for the past few years. It never disappoints. Today we ordered: green papaya salad, garlic black pepper pork, cashew queen, red curry, vegetable fried rice, and pad see ew. Everything was delicious, as usual, and I've never had better pad see ew except when I was in Thailand. They are super friendly and welcoming, and the food is priced well and fabulous. You can't ask for more!

I visited a friend in the area and she took me here. It was such a cute little place and the food was very good as well. There is a nice ambience to the restaurant and I thought it was such a unique idea that the art on the wall and stuff throughout the restaurant can be sold. I would try the iced tea, mango salad, lat nah, duck, and my favorite fried banana and ice cream!

I've been here a handfull of times, but, the only thing that i've ordered was the Chicken Curry, i have to say its reeeeallly tasty! The staff is friendly and they have been really busy everytime I have eaten there. Next time, I have to try something new ;)

Good Thai food at unbelievably low prices. Go there for the lunch special ($6.99 for an entrée, salad, and a drink), but stay for the Thai kitsch all over the walls. Excellent Pad See Ew, good Pad Thai, great curries, and friendly staff. The parking "lot" is awkward and fits very few cars, but there's plenty of street parking in the neighborhood. A much better value for the money than the Thai place across the street. You know who you are...

  • Joy H.

During my lunch today, I DUG a hair out of my red curry. I quietly called the server over and showed her. The first thing she said was "that's not ours, maybe it's yours." I didn't want to cause a scene even though there was only one other patron and it is the holidays, so I stupidly paid (even left a $2 tip) and left. It's true, one bad incident mars everything. That waitress's rudeness just cost them a regular customer. I'll never be back again. Shame cause it's one of the best Thai places around.

Hands down the best delivery /take out food in cv. Whether you eat in or have top Thai delivered your taste buds are in for a treat. I could eat top Thai once a week for the rest of my life and die a happy girl . I will however not do that ... I need to maintain the sexy people I only save the over indulging for chocolate . But back to top Thai the Ginger pork is the ultimate yum you will love it too.

I have been to this place 3 times, food is good and service too. They are quick and the best is the lunch specials. The food is not spicy as expected, its toned down. There should be an option for the spice level. Some of the items are tasty when spicy. Oh BTW there decor is very attractive.

3.5 stars in actuality, rounded off to a 4 star. Ordered: Beef Satay: 4 stars for the taste, -1star for portion. The satay tasted really good, but portion wise too small. It's 5 skewers of thin sliced beef. I usually saw thicker meat than this. Peanut sauce is great, though I didn't have much because I don't want the sauce to cover up the taste of the meat itself. Green Papaya Salad: 2 stars. This was not the same one we were used to. The whole dish was too raw and too sour for us. The ones we had before were also spicy, but this dish here was only sweet and sour. The green beans in the salad tasted totally raw. I don't think green beans are meant to be eaten raw. Seafood Claypot: 3.5 stars. The seafood all taste pretty good. There were mussels, scallops, shrimp, squid, fish, onions and mushrooms. Everything taste pretty good, except there's not much of it. The claypot came 2/3 filled with rice. Red Pumpkin Curry (beef): 4 stars. The curry itself is worth a 5 star, but sadly I've chosen beef to go with the curry, and that was a bad choice. The beef was overcooked, not tender and a bit chewy. Also I think the beef weren't cooked in the curry but were added later on instead, but I sort of understand why they would do that, since they offer a few meat choices. The curry itself is spicy, full of aroma, and also carries hint of the pumpkin sweetness. Definitely worth a try! Parking is a bit hard to find. They don't have a big parking lot, so good luck with street parking. Price is also quite affordable, with most of the main dish under 10 dollars. Our total bill came to a little over $30 excluding tax. I would come back and try out other curries, since I've had such a great experience with the pumpkin curry, but the next time, I won't be ordering any appetizer soon.

Nobody rivals Krung Thai's pineapple fried rice so far, but Top Thai comes pretty darn close. The duck curry was better than the pumpkin curry (the chicken was dry), papaya salad wasn't bad, and green top Thai is great for your veggies. Service was a little bit slow, but we were able to utilize the senior discount on the entrees since the in-laws were with us. The only other minus was they put eggs in the fried rice, even though I said no peanuts or eggs in any of the dishes. Best bet for Thai in Castro Valley!

  • S L.

Tonight they were super busy and service just fell apart. I was bummed because it should have been a great end to my day, but it was hectic and I had to get up after asking for tea 3 times and having glasses dropped and broken around me. Didn't even get the tea for free even though we finally got it half way through dinner and ordered it as we were seated. If management does not change their approach to waiting unhappy customers or fix how they run the house when it is packed, I won't be dining here weekly anymore. I'd recommend this place as long as it isn't too busy to receive service.

I must go here at least once or twice a MONTH, and yet, they always remember my order and where I work (haha). Talk about great customer service! I usually go here for lunch (great time to go because it includes a FREE drink!) and the bill is always around $20 for two people. CHEAP! Food is great, prices are great, and the service is great! They just remodeled not too long ago, too, so check it out!

Been here once for the Top Thai Fried Rice. Surprisingly yum! The mint seemed just right for a hot lunch day. The chicken was just a tad dry and the rice was a bit greasy. Overall the dish was very tasty. As a takeout order, it took 15 minutes, no problem there :) I wasn't expecting much from Castro Valley so was pleasantly surprised. Will be back again.

Pumpkin Curry w/ Chicken and Thai Fried Rice w/ Shrimp...I'm sprung! I was in the mood for comfort food and found comfort in this entree combination. Top Thai is right up there with Red Chili in Hayward. I would have given them five stars IF my glass of wine were served chilled. Otherwise food was absolutely delish! I will definitely be returning...

I ate lunch here for the first time last week. I am a huge fan of Thai food so I was excited to try this place. The lunch dishes came with soup, entree and rice, which I felt was a good amount of food and definitely filled me up. I had the pad thai, which was good. Not great, but good. It had a good mix of flavors but wasn't really up to par on the level and mixture of spice. It somewhat felt like very americanized thai food, which was very contrary to the decor inside the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, it just didn't taste very authentic to the pad thai that I've had in Thailand and felt as though it was rather lacking.. However, the price was very affordable for lunch and it definitely was filling... I would be willing to go back and try it again, but would probably try a different dish next time.

Did the owner change? This place used to be awesome. The food was so good. We went there all the time. What happened??? Now the service is bad. The waitresses have attitudes. The food has changed for the worse. The cleanliness has changed for the worse. There were fly's in the restaurant. This was our go to Thai place, but not any more. We will not be returning here ever again. We will greatly miss the ORIGINAL Top Thai.

Great spot with good thai food and very good prices. I've had the pad thai, pad see yoo, and the thai basil here. The thai basil was the only one of the three that I would not recommend. I went here with my family last night and just as usual the place was going strong at 8pm on a Sunday night. I think they must also do a lot of takeout orders too, since people were constantly coming in. I'd recommend chicken dishes here. I had some of my sister's curry chicken and really enjoyed that as well.

June 2010, Sunday late lunch (3 pm) First of all, just glad that this place is open at 3 pm on Sunday. First time eating in Castro Valley, picked this place (based on other reviews). Parking is a bit small. Restaurant is big (took up 2 units in that complex). Decors are nice, and maybe on the high end side and atmosphere is right. Had a veggy Pad Thai, it was pretty good and authentic. Since that is the only thing I had, I am kind of reserved and gave it a 3 star, until I have chance to try more of their dishes.

Went here for lunch today and liked the decor and music, food was tasty (had the green curry chicken and brown rice), but the server didn't smile or give us any welcome or any friendly chatter ... kind of weird. Then when my friend asked to hold the onions and peppers from her yellow curry dish, I asked if she could have a diff vegetable as a substitute, the server said no. My friend asked for shrimp instead of other choices for the curry meat and server said, that will be $1 extra. We both asked for the brown rice and she said, that will be $1 extra. There was another thing my friend asked for, and guess what server said ...!!! All that without a smile. On the positive side, if you want refills for your thai iced tea the cost is reduced!! not sure about going back, really... I expect better for service.

So... I got totally lost figuring the entrance to the restaurant with 2 doors and all. The decor is very pretty and staff is friendly. The food portions are not huge. I am not wowed, but it's decent Thai that's local. The Pad Thai is delicious and curries are nicely flavored. The restaurant sells pretty much all it's decor from statues and paintings, and random trinkets. Which actually makes the restaurant kind of..... cheap. I don't think people actually buy the decorations, since who thinks of shopping for new decorations during dinner?

So I am a regular at Thai garden. One night at work we were starving and we were busy. None of us could break away to pick up anything. Another coworker who happened to be called suggested top Thai and really won our vote when he said they delivered free in CV. $ of us got our orders in and all sat in our lounge to eat. On the menu it said grilled BBQ Thai chicken with papaya salad. That's what 3 of us ordered. The chicken was good boneless skinless. I asked for spicy, so next time I'll ask extra spicy. I like it to where my nose is running when it comes to Thai food = ) The papaya salad?? I couldn't tell you how it tasted because all we got was a little scoop of regular iceberg lettuce. Either update the menu or actually give whats on the menu I think. All in all chicken was good. I'll order here again if in a pinch. Pad Thai- was just good. Nothing special Coworker ordered duck curry- I tried 2 pieces. Both seemed to be just very fatty.

It was just average. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly and the service was good. I ordered pad Thai noodles with chicken. Appearance wise, the noodles were lacking color and thus, appeared to be a little bland. Upon tasting, it was better than I had initially expected but still could have used a tad bit more flavor. The tofu, however, was a bit hard and rubbery and was not delicious. Overall, the price ($6.99) was reasonable (it also came with free soup) but the food left a little something to be desired. Maybe I will go back and try another dish but I probably wouldn't recommend the pad Thai.

I can honestly say, this place was the best Thai food experience i've had ever!!!! You would not think that from outside because the place looks small and not so cute, but one you walk in, you get that Thai/Asian feeling. They have decorations all over the place, even the bathroom, the place is quiet cute! Now, to their food, O.M.G.! My friend and I shared the chicken pad thai, sauteed chicken with eggplant and yellow chicken curry......The food has SO MUCH flavor! I mean, it was just amazing tastey food! Good fresh quality, that I LOVE! Their service was also very friendly, the waitresses greet you right away as soon as you walk in and they are quick! I LOVE QUICK WAITRESSES/WAITERS. PLEASE check this place out and tell me what you think! I am sure you will agree with me! Best Thai food in Castro Valley and East Bay PERIOD!
